After Penguin I prefer manual linkbuilding over automatic.

Every link still counts and this will never change, The point is you cannot stick will only one. 2.0s or forum signatures, .edu links. You have to combine.

Also, vary your anchor text a lot. Its impossible that 100 people would link to you with exact anchor text. It just does not look natural. After all, that is what search engine is trying to mimic - human behavior - its Artificial Intelligence.

You can still use blog networks, fiverr gigs, article submissions etc. Just make sure you do it in natural pace. Surely don't build more links a day than you have visitors.

I continue to build the backlinks pretty much the same way I used to do it earlier. Web 2.0, High PR blog commenting, High PR contextual links, social bookmarking.

Still building 2 Tier links to my 1st Tier links. Fiver gigs, Warriors for hire etc.

As Tiiberiuss said, I am also varying my anchor text more. Usually keep my main keyword to around 20-30%. Mix it with other LSI keywords, URL, and random words. I am getting results.

Go and try for yourself. You won't know unless you try it for yourself!

I've also read that alternating your anchor text can help. Just continue to do ethical SEO and create relevant do follow backlinks.

for now i'm really cautious hiring seo services. with my new sites im just doing social bookmark, web2.0 and doing it manually

The same old stuff works, but you must adapt to the new changes.

What you need to incorporate these days: highly diversified anchor text, dripfed or scheduled backlinks

I'm still a fan of web 2.0 pyramids and links from a loooooooot of different sources! And if possible I create my first tier of web 2.0 pages manually with high quality content... then tier 2: article directories <- tier 3: blog comments and forum profiles, and finally social bookmark the whole structure!

And depending on the competition of my keywords I add an extra tier of web 2.0's pointing to the main web 2.0 sites.

Insist on manual linkbuilding! And try different ways like web 2.0 sites, social networking, microblog, major forum etc.

I think engaging more into social bookmarking and social media networking works. also buiild likes from edu and gov sites.

To be honest, after the weeding out of bad links SEO has become better and easier to rank for the whitehatters for virtually any niche at all.

Right now the question will be what works after all the ways to build back links have been labeled WRONG.

Let me officially announce to you all that virtually all the back link strategies still works with little bit of creativity and hand picking of sites for back link campaign.

- I still do article submission, just that this time I am more picky with my sites, use 100% unique content, barely spin, build pyramid and submit to only a handful of worthy article directories.

- When I social bookmark to my site directly I focus on the top popular social bookmarking sites like diggs e.t.c and have a real account and manually bookmark my sites.

- I still do blog commenting just that this time I manually comment more on high PR blog page.

- I still do press release just that this time I go for an actual Press Release content/subject and syndicate it to both free and top paid press release sites and sit down and watch my traffic soar. Even better my PR gets picked up by top media sites giving me real link juice.

- I don't do blog network anymore but this time I take the time and money to create a nameless private network for myself and for myself.

What am just trying to point out here is that, what works in the past still work today, you just have to be a little bit ahead of the game with a difference.

The problem is google wants more links to be included with content. I think wed 2.0 sites are still great for building links to but i wouldn't stress so much on link wheels as much. Maybe get some authority links from .gov and ,edu sites. Even wiki sites work great for that seo push.

Well, from my experience Pre-Penguin and Post-Penguin, Web 2.0 sites are working well with well written niche related articles.

Am I the only one that finds question threads with titles made to look like they might contain valuable information a trifle annoying? I'm picking on this one but it goes on all the time. Cheap trick.

A manual, natural backing strategy is the best way these days.

Anything else looks like - and probably is - an automated attempt to game the system and something that could cause you a major headache in the future.

Just look at all the IMers who were desperately trying to eradicate dodgy links from dodgy networks earlier this year.
