Social Bookmarking

I am reasonably new to the SEO world, and when it comes to social bookmarking I have to admit I am in the dark somewhat... I see all these websites like pinterest, stumbleupon, reddit, digg etc, and think.... argh! If you are a blogger trying to promote your blog I can understand how useful these can be. But what about a commercial website that publishes daily news stories? Should all the news be bookmarked by ALL these sites? Or are there a few that are particularly beneficial? Any explanation/ advice would be great, sorry if this question has already been asked a thousand time before

    You don't need to use them all but it doesn't hurt to see what works and what doesn't. I don't know what your niche is but there are probably some more relevant places to submit your articles.

    Don't spend too much time at it. If people like your stuff it will be shared in it's own regardless.

    If you are using social bookmarking for link building then try to get one link from one site, also try to use some top social bookmarking sites, these would work..

    Social bookmarks can still help to rank certain web pages from the tests I've done.

    You can get bookmarking packages form fiverr that submit your url to the top 50 bookmarking sites.

    But if you're using any automation, take it easy and don't blast out 1000s all at once as this can now have a negative effect.

    I used to use social bookmarking as my main way of ranking on Google. From what I can tell, it doesn't work anymore, except for getting traffic if you're active on Stumble Upon, or something like that. From what I can tell, the social traffic is easier to get than traffic from Google, if you put some effort into that instead.

    I've been looking for a good social bookmark strategy. I am not expecting too much in terms of seo but I need them for link diversity. What is the best way to do this? Every now and again should I sign up to a site such as digg and create account and place my link on there? Or should I sign up to loads of bookmarking sites and keep using the same accounts? The former method would look a bit strange as I would only ever have one signal per account but the later method would also look strange, as there would be multiple links to the same sites coming from the one account. I think it is may be best to sign up to 20 or 30 accounts and just submit my links for my websites, with links to well known sites, wikis and national news websites or something.
