Web 2.0's for SEO - Brand or no brand??

Hi there

I need some advice regarding setting up Web 2.0's.

The main objective is for link building, I will be regularly posting to these sites (20+ of them). I wanted to know whether it would be better to brand these sites i.e www.mainsite.w0rdPress.c0m and make it well known they are affiliated with my main ecommerce site or:

Create them so they are not connected at all to my main site: www.keyword.w0rdpress.c0m ????? The bonus of doing it this way is that I could group keywords a little easier

Would this even make a difference?

Cheers

Do not use your website name or brand name for web 2 sites. Instead use different related keywords.

Avoid leaving any type of footprints so go with long tail keywords et similia.

I would agree on this suggestion. You can have your 20 different web 2.0 properties target different keywords and rank them independently. Ideally, the keywords should only be relevant to your main keywords list, not the exact match. It is hard to rank a website targeting, for example, 'travel agent' if it links to another site using the same 'travel agent' keyword.

To be honest the decision is up to you, if you are thinking of using your brand name for all your web 2.0 home pages it's ok but every new content you publish should carry your target audience title and be optimized for your keyword.

Since your aim is for back link then this isn't necessary, rather target your keyword.

Having done both - I'd say go for branding if you're really trying to build a presence with your ecommerce site. Provide good content and keywords in the titles but treat these as a way to drive traffic directly and not as a way to influence your google position and you'll be much happier with the results long-term. Plus if you ever want to sell the site having some great web 2.0 properties to go with it is going to be worth a lot more.

Mix it up. It is perfectly natural for a website to have its own wordpress, blogger, tumblr site etc. I would say go for four or five branded web2.0s and then the rest non-connected keyword related blogs.

    haha

I can see what you are say pdrs... I'm all for building web presence and it makes sense, my articles are all unique. I can see the benefits of both - Backling and keyword targeting for non branded and Brand presense and driving direct traffic for branded!

Maybe I should do both... Would doubling up on branded and non branded web 2.0s effect the power of the backlinks coming from them?

Would using the same article on the branded web 2.0's bring up duplicate content issues? As in Google would only cache one version of the web 2.0 articles?

Just do em all branded - yourwebsite.weebly.com or whatever - you can still backlink from everyone of your articles but then you've got the nice 'branded' URL's go along with your main site.

Chances are you're never going to get an exact keyword match anyways so it will be like: keywordxxx.weebly.com or whatever which just looks spammy as crap anyways and it's not going to have any real effect on the power of the backlink anyways, that's going to come from your anchor text used in the actual link itself

Link wheel is tracked by Google as you create new pages on these web 2.0 sites so you are leaving foot print here..

I will not be linking the Non-branded web 2.0's together and will be using proxies to post so no footprint.

Branded i will link together as link building isnt the main objective with these.
