I just made my first $1 from my website with CPC ads. I know its only one dollar but im still very happy as i here the first dollar is always the hardest, and from here the ball should be rolling a little easier.

At the moment my website only gets about 80 visitors a day, it took me 9 days to get 7 ad clicks which brought me $1.10. Im focusing on increasing traffic, brand awareness, backlinks, etc...

The site is only 4 months old and so far ive invested $1400 in it to design the site, ive been doing the seo myself (on-page and off) and it seems to be working well, placing nice in the serps with a PR of 5. I have facebook, twitter and pinterest accounts going also.

Just thought i would post my first $1 story and see if anyone has any recommendations on what i can do to increase ROI and CTR on the ad's.

    first off congratulations!
and now just some idea, first with 80 visitors a day you will want to be getting more than 7 clicks in 9 days. try working on optimizing the conversions, ad positions etc, and then otherwise keep building the site as you are doing, the best thing is to keep going so that the income is in essence exponential each month as all the work you do is added to the work previously done.

      Thanks for the congrats!
Thats what i thought as well, the CTR seems kind of low. I have a leaderboard ad above the fold that everyone should be seeing, and a medium rectangle in the footer. Will try and experiment with placement, and ad text color. Should i blend the ad color with the website? I have orange text to make them visible at the moment.

You might want to remove the ad from the footer, as users probably aren't seeing it. I would recommend adding a 728x90 ad just below your content, and floating a 300x250 ad on the left side of your post. Make sure both are blended.

Yep, sounds good. I just adjusted the ad placement and blended them into the site more. They don't seem as visible, but for all i know that could be a good thing. Will keep this thread updated if i notice any conversion changes.

If you share your website URL then people can more easily give you advice on your ad placement.

As a general rule of thumb for me, 1 visitor per day = $1 per month, if the site is monetized only with Adsense.

So at 80 visitors per day, you could probably achieve $80 per month with Adsense, if you maximize your ad performance with good ad colors and the right placement and size.

I would be beyond content if i could achieve conversion that high. Im not using adsense tho, im using a CPC network specific for my niche. I wasn't going to post a link because my niche happens to be "Cannabis"(strictly informational) related LOL. But for those comfortable with that I will post the link.

Update: Im unable to post links because im new and only have 5 posts. Will post when i can.

    Congrats!
I am about 4 1/2 months into my site and today I reached $100. One thing I have noticed is that my sidebar ad gets more clicks than my header, with less impressions. It is 160x600. On some of my pages I removed the header ad because I think if it is to close to the top people wont bother to let it load before scrolling down. So if you ad is to high find a way to lower it. Good luck man.

Very well done for 4.5 months! How much traffic are you getting? Ive already lowered my header ad, it was under my page menu, i lowered to under the titles of the pages, blended the ads to match my sites link colors. Will give it a week and see if there is any change. As for the sidebar, im going to have to figure out how to put them on that makes sense, because my site format is kind of wide.

I was averaging 100+ daily visits but had 2 viral spikes this month. One giving me 600+ hits on reddit and the other that lasted 5 days and received 55,000 from stumbleupon.

I'll tell you what. Don't take this personally, but after investing
$1400 (CHOKE) you have made $1? If that was me, (which it
wouldn't be), I'd stop the bleeding and vow never to spend that
kind of cash again. Maybe this is just a word to others who
are thinking about parting with their money.

I doubt the PR5 as well, but I digress. Spend your next $1400 on
backlinks or something that's actually useful.

I do agree with you paul, $1400 is steep to have only made $1 so far. But at the moment its really not bothering me as im confident i will make this back. I have a very unique site which required extensive coding, the site is a natural backlink creator as people tend to link to it naturaly. I was on first page of redit and hacker news a few days after launch, i got a GIANT burst of traffic but at the time i did not have any ads up yet. The site does have a PR of 5 thats for sure. My advice to others, dont spend $1400 on a blog, but if you have a unique website idea that can take off, don't be afraid to take the chance.

Now your hooked, theres no turning back now.. lol

Adsense is good and reliable because it comes in everyday without fail. The amount you make does fluctuate that's why people get pissed off with Adsense because it's jumps up and down like a Yoyo. To be honest it's like watching grass grow, it really is painful at times. You need to stick with it for atleast 12 months and DO NOT jump from program to program. Write as many articles everyday or outsource it. The more the merrier. Don't listen to these guru's that say you only need 5 really good articles to get alot of traffic. You can, but it's rare that's why large authority Adsense sites make more money then thin weak prefab sites you buy on this forum for $97 Lmfao. With the release of every new Google update, yes some authority sites get hit but the majority win as opposed to thin prefab WSO Adsense sites.

    Good luck my friend

Very inspirational, im definitely sticking with it. In the middle of exprimenting with ad placement and style. Its not Adnsense im using but another CPC ad network. If i dont see any postive change with the ad placements im going to back to the old style and just increase traffic, and perhaps add a vertical ad on the side. Hmmm so much to experiment with...
