Hi there,

I would like to do a website for DVD conversion local to where I live. I would like to have a main domain name without keywords in it. I would also like to do work in my 2 local towns. Would it be a good thing to buy those keyword rich domains that include, separately, both town names and get both of these to do a 301 redirect or make 2 separate landing pages that both point to my "main domain"? Some people say having a keyword rich domain doesn't really matter much anymore, some say it is... Could I rank just as high with meta tags and organic results?

Thanks,

Andrew

The ranking basically depends upon the popularity (no. of relevant backlinks) and should not have any relation with the domain name. So whatever domain you want can get and make it popular through link building. Preferably get a single domain that can reflect the type of business. e.g. dvdconevrsionservices.com etc. in your case.

As for the domain name, its keyword leverage has diminished after Penguin update. The leverage factor was about .3. Now it is about .1.

I rank plenty of my client's webpages just by having the keyword in the title and description tag. It is all about quality backlinks.

Better to make two separate landing pages and optimize them separately. Most probably these new sites will be in competition on Google search and that would be ideal situation. You will have two websites on first page of Google and click probability will be increased.
I suggest to go with word press or other cms for this.

I am also a professional SEO specialist and have experience of working on landing pages for original sites.

      Thanks for the info guys.

It may seem like overkill but I want to get ranked in Nottingham and Derby and I have 5 domains in total I am about to do something with if you can let me know what you think is the best thing for me to do. I bought 4 domains up coz they were a steal at godaddy right now, all half price... retailmenot(dot)com/view/godaddy(dot)com and it's £2.69 for .co.uk's, anyway.

This 1st one is probably going to be my main site videotodvdservice.co.uk

The others have my keywords in them, they may help rank, they may not. I bought them anyway just in case.

      They are:
      videotodvdnottingham.co.uk
      vhstodvdnottingham.co.uk
      videotodvdderby.co.uk
      vhstodvdderby.co.uk

Should I make 4 totally unique landing pages on these sites that all point to the 1st domain? Or 301 redirects? I'd really like to appear on the 1st page multiple times if possible and can you only do that with a landing page? I'm just not sure what my next step should be?

I appreciate everyone taking their time out to help.

      Thank you,

      Andrew
