These days, if I was to get a backlink from somewhere like ezine articles, will it be penalised. Was thinking of backlinking the ezine article to add a bit muscle to the overall link. I have used up lots of web2.0 and now looking for alternatives.

    Ezinearticles = worthless link, IMO.
    And if ezinearticle is worthless, all general article directories are as well.

    Their SEO value has diminished over the years. You can continue trying to milk the last few drops of juice left or you can start now with strategies that are a better use of your time and money.

      I'm ranking #1 with a few ezine links but it took quite some time to take effect. Once the links had aged for 2/3 months the site fell into position.

      Furthermore, I have seen a few sites ranking for extremely competitive terms with the majority of their links coming from article directories. You need to do article marketing properly if you want it to work.

      I believe there is a myth about "bad neighbourhoods". If you look at what happened to wmpu, you will see.

        Yep, I don't doubt you.

        All I'm saying is that people should stop reacting to Google updates and start proactively building links by looking ahead. It's clear what path Google is on, and that it is determined to devalue low-quality links that are easy to acquire. Ezinearticles is about as easy as it gets.

          I see what you're saying and Danny Sullivan has said the same things on his blog but in a way i disagree that ezine are easy links.

          They've change their terms now. If you don't contribute good enough articles then they will nofollow your links. So that imo says something to Google, that a professional writer has reviewed your content and it meets the highest standards. So if you get a dofollow link from ezine then that's a good thing

          It's the 500 article link blasts with dupe content you want to watch out for.

    now looking for alternatives.
    Social bookmark links are better alternatives than the article links. You build social bookmark link for those web2.0s and for your money site.

    Article Directory Links is not dead yet. As long as you provide 100% original content, no spun copies of it pointing to your money site. You are still good. When Google detects these, it will de-value the link from ALL sources, article directories, web2.0, etc..
