Big question. Just started my amazon campaign months ago, I chose a really small word, 2k global search, it's more competitive than I thought it would be, not many choices with the payment methods and the pay period is long. BTW, they decreased commission rate recently.

It is incredibly easy to set up. I sometimes create Squidoo pages and put some Amazon links in a niche that I care about but don't want to make a whole website on. The commissions are low...so you can focus on volume or on high ticket items.

The upsides: everyone knows Amazon, and usually already have an account with them.
The tracking cookie lasts for 24 hours, so whatever they buy on the site, you'll get a cut of that. My first sale was a vibrator. I'm not in the vibrator niche.

Downsides: The data isn't very specific. It will tell you how many clicks and impressions, but not which items were clicked on, or which website it came from.

    Anyway, I hope this helps!

You can tell which items were clicked on from product specific links. You can also list the items which had clicks, but no sales by clicking the downdrop down on the orders report.

      Hahaha! Excellent!

Yea you'll get a lot of completely random purchases like that one.

I owned a bunch of Amazon affiliate sites back in the day, made some good money (like $50/month per site), then sold the sites (didn't get that much selling them tbh - buyers prefer Adsense over Amazon/other affiliate/CB). I'm considering launching a big, original website in a large product niche and monetizing with Amazon. Might just make it in time for Christmas, if I start now.

Lol, I was rather shocked too when I got sales of things like that.

Amazon is great, it converts well, which compensates for the relatively low commission rates. Everyone trusts them and so people buy quite readily.

What exactly are you looking for? I, personally, prefer larger "authority sites" that target many products within the same niche. I target low competition products so my sites rank extremely easily and they require NO backlinking efforts.

With this strategy, I do very well month after month.
