Building Backlinks to Domain Name Vs Posts

I'm a little confused about whether I should point backlinks to my homepage or individual posts. Pointing backlinks to the homepage makes sense for directories, blog commenting and profiles. Pointing backlinks to individual posts makes sense for web 2.0 sites and social bookmaring. Am I wrong in my thinking? Or is this what you guys typically do?

Thanks.

You can point deeplinks to your site with any type of link including directories, blog comments and forum profiles. I recommend doing it whenever appropriate.. for example you could discover a blog post that is just like a post you have written on your site and comment with a link back to your post but you need to keep your urls short as some platforms will only allow 80 characters.

Some directories allow deeplinks as well as a link to your homepage and with profiles you can leave the branded.com link for your homepage and one or two other links to internal pages.

Web 2.0 you can do the same, link to your homepage and internal posts, same with bookmarking, mix it all up.

    Hi,

First of all, what do you mean by individual posts here? If you are mentioning it as subfolders, then yes, targeting specific keywords to subfolders is a best idea instead of targeting all keywords to the home page. A page that talks about SEO services must be targeted for SEO Services and not the home page. This way the process is simpler as well as its easier.

    Hope it helps.

choose your target keywords which are more related to your domain or sub domain to get back links. you can not achieve traffic if you choose any pages to irrelevant keywords. Because relevancy could be made big changes in your results. so follow the correct ways. more sources are like directory allow to submit the deep links. Find out the list and get back links from there. Good luck

I agree with JohnBritto -- Make sure the backlinks are relevant to the content you are wanting to rank. Your though process seems very logical though in that Profile/Directory links should be linked to the main page and deeplinking should be for web 2.0 etc... I think you should split test that in a new thread! That would be interesting to find out!

For me, I generally put most of my backlinks to my main page. However, after I start building posts, I tend to do a smaller campaign to these guys. We're mostly focused on smaller sites though, so this works out perfectly for us.

If you want your individual pages to rank for specific keywords - and I guess you do, you also need to build like to your pages - links from different sources, dofollow links, nofollow links, quality links from authority sites... just make it look naturally.

And of course, you also need links to your home page - your home page will pass link juice down to your individual pages.
