Are blogs on private hosting better than web 2.0 blogs?

Hi,

Do you guys believe that google values privately hosted blogs more than web 2.0 blogs? I am trying to figure out whether the extra hosting and domain costs are worth creating my 1st tier on or not.

No they don't. Some would even say that web 2.0 properties have a higher value because they inherit some of the trust from the web 2.0 domain. The big difference is though that you don't control web 2.0's. They can get deleted at any time, which may end up wasting loads of hard work. Having your own domains gives you more control.
