Should I pursue this Keyword?

I was just wanting to get some feedback on a keyword I have come across. If you look at the PR of the competing sites, they are relatively low. The exact phrase gets 1,300 searches globally a month. How easy would it be to rank for this keyword?

For me personally...I wouldn't know without knowing the keyword.

Again..for me, I have never found that tools and analytical data like that make much of a difference or help much.

What are the competing sites? Is it a totally over-saturated keyword that looks good on paper, but will be tough to break into?

Are the top searches Amazon or Yahoo answers, or authority sites?

Are the top results fully optimized (are those people TRYING to be in that search space)?

Those are the things I look at for keywords, so maybe check that stuff out to get a better idea.

The first competing site is just an amazon search. I tried to go more in-depth and find the backlinks that were helping push the page to the top, but in my backlink checker it said none existed. The second site is one that only mentions the keyword once in the header, but doesn't have any real depth to it other than listing the products for sale. And the third site, is just and Ebay search page with the keyword in it. They are authority sites, but their pages have no big authority in my opinion.

        Yea...that's better.

No tool will give you accurate backlinks for whatever reason. You can check the top sites (not counting Amazon or hugs sites) with something like Majestic SEO (free version will give you an idea).

If you see a lot of links from "spammy" type sites, you may be able to get in there.

The keywords I ONLY go after are similar to what you are saying though. Sites like Amazon get ranked for tons of searches because they have so much authority that they make a good placeholder.

Most of the time, those sites are not trying to be in that search, so with some effort you can bump them.

You can bump anyone I guess, but for me...I don't like waiting months and months for SEO to kick in.

If you truly find the right keyword you can easily be on the 1st page in a matter of hours or days.

Agreed, those tools aren't much help.

If I was competition I could easily throw off that software with related internal links supporting the ranked page.

Well I am fairly new to this whole thing and found the Warrior Forums. I love all the help and advice everyone gives and just want some feedback.

So market samurai isn't good software to use? I have heard nothing but good things about it.

Anywho, so technically there could be NO backlinks to these pages at all, but merely internal backlinks throwing off software so people who might want to rank for them are a little weary?

As for Market Samurai don't waste your money. Tools like that are marketed towards new people because the creators make everything seem like it's push-button easy.

When you learn good KW research, you'll see that the ONLY tools you need are 1) Your Brain and 2) The FREE Google keyword tool

If you need a place to learn good KW research I can hook you up with a TOTALLY FREE place to start learning, with zero strings attached, nothing will be sold to you and no BS.

There are keywords out there that get 50k exact searches a month that are totally ripe for the taking...because 99.9% of IM'ers don't teach good keyword research....they sell people ****ty tools that don't work.

            Sure..

A guy who is here on WF runs this site, and I have NO AFFILIATION with him.

I've learned a LOT there, and all of it has been totally free. They do pretty regular "no pitch" webinars and you'll find lots of good nuggets.

Here is his newest training/SEO area: Here

The guy is good at KW research and does it a bit different, so go through those videos then read the posts on the main site..there isn't a ton of them, so you can get through it in a day or so if you want.

MS is an over ranked tool! I dont spend my hard earned money behind this tool! A very big part of the game is competition analysis. MS is very weak in this area. So I would recommend you to use SEO Spy Glass with other keyword research tools. One time payment and it would help you to check pros and cons of competitor's backlinks. When checking competition keep one thing in mind. Competition does not depend on number of backlinks only. It actually depends on quality of backlinks(I am talking about backlinks your competing webpages got). Here are some factors you need to check when you are checking competition.

    -PR of backlinks
-Anchor texts of these backlinks. There might be many high PR backlinks to your competitor's webpage but only few of them are using your targeted keywords. Vice versa is possible. There might be very small amount of backlinks but 90% of them are high PR and using your target keywords.
    - Link age
-Whether the links are dofollow or nofollow
    -Relevancy
    -Types of backlinks

And many more. These are just about backlinks. You need to check authority of the site, domain age, onpage SEO strength, trust factors etc. So whats the conclusion? Check traffic volume>pick up some long tail keywords>check competition>pick up keywords you think you can work for. This is the right way to do KR.
