Lost a LOT of backlinks in the last week of June

Around June 26 up to today, Ahref reports a lot of my backlinks gone for several websites. I use different link building strategies for each website, but they all took a huge dip around that time.

Has this happened to anyone else? What is going on?

I think webmasters are being more careful about who they're linking to but it's difficult to say without seeing the data though.

Panda/Penguin or any other Google update has NOTHING to do with data reported in Ahrefs or any other third party backlink data provider.

Have you investigated yourself to see if the links are actually there or not anymore? The links not showing up in Ahrefs could just mean they are no longer in Ahrefs' index, but that does not mean they are no longer physically there.

Very true. Ahref crawls links independently of google.

If you fear you have lost links beast to check the sites in question. They could be down, simply changed their layout or maybe your link has been removed.

If the latter is true, dont worry about it too much. Continue your white hat link building strategy and all will be ok in the end.

Just remember, easy links are rubbish links

How? Ahref doesn't show which links disappeared, right?

I always keep the link reports. You could compare that way. If you didn't, then yeah, no way to know.

What kind of links have you been building? Do you use a lot of blog networks? Those links will go away a lot in tools like Ahrefs because they are not always crawling 20-30 pages deem on those kind domains to find your links.

Either way, it is probably just a case of them dropping from Ahrefs' index and nothing else. Do you use GWT? Is there a massive link drop in there?

Can you recommend a software that will check links from a file?

SpyGlass will pull links from a bunch of different databases and then check if the links are still active or not.

You should be really careful with this. You can easily "destroy" your website in google or other search engines. You should pay attention to the number of backlinks you get each day and try to make them almost equal to the backlinks you got the previous day. Also don't forget to use DIFFERENT anchor texts
