I see 50% here, 30% here, 10% there, maybe even 60% there and 40% there. I'm wondering what is the best way to not get a big *** slap from google post penguin from everyone's opinions.

The best advice I can give you is to not go by a set of rules.

Simply go with what feels natural.

The more you mix up the variations the better...
At least that's what's working for me.

That didn't go to well with me. I couldn't decide between the guides I was reading that told me 100% exact and like 30 30 30 10 so I chose 100% and I got slapped by yahoo and bing.

This whole idea of anchor text diversity is bogus and just
        looking under the same rocks.

Nobody listens to google. They just listen with half an
ear, then say, "Gee, what can I do to try another
        google shmooze?"

It's not about anchor text diversity. It's about spam.
Period. You think spamming the same blogs with
different anchor text is going to mean something?
Hardly. It's about spam, not anchor text. You put
1000 different text links on the same 1000 blogs,
        and you aint getting anywhere.

You put the same anchor text on good places, and
        you have no problem.

Why do people continuously keep try to shmooze
        google?

It's about SPAM, not anchor text.

See, the WF is a GOOD place for links. So, anchor
text matters not. Go and do likewise.

Oh, BTW, if you seriously think anchor text variety
has any bearing, and you have a sig link here,
Then you are talking out of both sides of your mouth.
