Confused about backlinks!

I have a new site and within the last month have manually posted 5 articles to article directories like Ezine Articles, I also had a link pyramid done using a backlink service that has rave reviews and no sign of any backlinks when I check using various tools available. How long does it typically take for backlinks to show up? My site is currently ranked #4 for yahoo and #4 for Bing but not even in the top 100 for google.

    I don't know how long it takes, for sure it takes some time. Weeks is my feeling. I think it also depends how well Google indexes the place where you put the link. Did you check with Firefox if they are not set on "no follow"?

    it takes time brother!
    this doesn't happen over night, teh search engines need to crawl and find these links. then they "qualify" them, and then you can start seeing rank increases.

    seo is a long term strategy and not an overnight deal
