  Content is what makes links valuable/viral.

If you're doing it by yourself, you should know how the people would want to see you on the Internet. You should also know what they want from you. Get to know them by joining online forums and groups on social media sites so that you know what they really want to see. Create content based on that data you've gathered and share links that will lead the people to that content. Make it easy for them to share your content on their social media pages so that it can reach their networks.

Use automated social bookmarking service, I have tried socialadr. You can build a lot of backlight from there. Just pay a monthly fees for 17usd then you can just post ur URL on it, people will come to share ur URL at their social bookmark sites.

I beg to differ this comment, dont read to much, thats what we all did and regret. You will find 1000's of ways, each contradicting the other.

take action -> review results -> optimize/revision whats working/not working -> rinse -> repeat.

Link building can be done with diverse methods, you need to read a few guides online. For a beginner I would suggest you to start with forum posting. It's an easy way to get backlinks, but make sure you comment properly in forums and don't just spam.

If new to SEO, start with
1. Blog Commenting - It means visiting blogs related to your genre and putting comments on those blogs (accompanied by link to your site)
2. Social Bookmarking: Make a page for your site on FB, create an Twitter account and add your site to google+
3. Search for Online Web Directories and Submit your URL to them.

These are the best things to do, imo, for beginners.
