Hi Guys,

I have a few high PR blogs that i`m starting to build my own blog network with as soon as i buy the domain with PR i add privacy guard right away.

But today i got a email to my address linking with godaddy asking me if i wanted to sell ad space on one of the sites i`ve bought for the beginnings of my blog network.

How the hell did they find me ?? How did they get my email address ??

Any ideas ?

thanks James

Does the content you're using for your blogs appear anywhere else on the web?

Do you have any kind of personally identifying information on your blogs at all? For example: a throwaway email address that you might have used somewhere else, a username, a profile picture you could have used elsewhere, etc.

No just check the single article that i added to the site still isn`t anyway on the web but my site and its just a cheap article i had written for adding 4 urls as backlinks, Theres absolutly nothing on the actual site that could link back to me more so via the email address i use for godaddy ?

Just got a email from godaddy they have assured me that the privacy and whois is set up correct so how the hell did someone manage to send me this email..

    Hi,

I work for More Digital; a UK based Digital Marketing Consultancy.

We represent clients interested in social media marketing on smaller sites with little or no existing advertising and we're currently looking for advertising partners.

We pay a fixed upfront annual fee which we will agree on with you. Once the ad is in place, payment is made within approximately 48 hours.

Would you be interested in placing a small text-based ad on M$$$$$s.org? <--- that site is part of my secret pr 4 blog network ?????

This may be a silly question but are you sure they sent the email directly to you, and not through the remailer that godaddy privacy uses?

Also, while I'm here, any tips for building a private blog network? I don't really understand how it works, it just seems to make the process of link building more abstracted. Rather than having to find ways to get high quality links to your primary sites, you have to find ways to get high quality links to your blogs. How do you go about it, and why is it easier than finding links to your sites directly? Thanks

God knows where it came from ! "Rather than having to find ways to get high quality links to your primary sites, you have to find ways to get high quality links to your blogs." You buy domains that already have PR and you must run them though a series of checks to make sure the PR will stick after you have bought and also that the whole domain is sound. You can then continue to build quality backlinks to them if you want and i do but if you buy a domain with a PR4 and you did your homework you dont have to find anylinks to it and the thing is theres alot you can actually do with them more than just backlinking your own sites

GoDaddy uses a company called "Domains by Proxy" who applies privacy to your domain.

In that case it's totally normal.

When you use domain privacy, the service provider replaces your email address in the WHOIS record with one they control. When they receive mail to that address, they forward it to your real address.

The person emailing you never sees your real email address. They only see the address assigned to you. For example, WHOIS on my domain shows an address that looks like
      Code:
      ca421de218sj7f7x9d7d55123092x61.protect@whoisguard.com
If you email that address, the mail is forwarded to me, but you still don't know who I am, unless I send you an email back which would reveal my true email address.

Its totally normal. Thats the reason you give godaddy an email when registering the domain, so in such cases godaddy can redirect the email to you.

The person who wants to buy link/ad doesn't actually know/have your email address. they simply contacted you through godaddy and unless you reply to the emailer, he or she wont know your email address.

Many of the above replies are correct. If you have privacy on a domain and set it up properly then the email addresses shown on the WHOIS will forward to your email, while still never revealing your email address to the sender. So your information is still safe in that regard. If you have any questions or want to disable the forwarding (which I don't recommend) Support can assist you with this 24/7. ^Colby Go Daddy Social Media Team

Using private registration with GoDaddy, puts the contact email YOURDOMAIN@domainsbyproxy.com as the contact when doing a WhoIs lookup. That way people can still contact you (as the email would be forwarded to you by GoDaddy) but they don't actually have your contact info.

Domainsbyproxy is related to Godaddy. In practical terms they are one and the same. DBP just administers domain privacy for Godaddy domains. Your details would therefore be known to DBP. When you enable privacy for Godaddy, it's actually provided by DBP.

Yeah that is just the email address tied to your privacy account. If you respond back to someone who emails you through your privacy account, then your real email will appear to them. They don't offer free privacy any more, but you can still get it for free below.
