URL nationality question

Hi there,

In one of my new SEO projects I am targeting both USA and UK. I am unable to use a .co.uk domain for the UK SEO campaign which was my initial plan. Instead I am limited to use a .com adress. This is perfectly fine regarding the USA market. It it is the UK market that seems problematic in my opinion. Was wondering what works best in targeting UK from a SEO perspective?

1. Just keeping the .com site and optimizing on that alone (disregarding the nationality and just focusing on the language in common)!
2. Creating a uk subdomain (uk.xxx.com)?
3. Creating a uk inner page (xxx.com/uk)?
4. Something entirely different....

Could anyone help me out here?

The confused

If you wanted to rank solely in the UK, then getting hosting that was in the UK would be helpful. However, since you want to rank for both, location of hosting and domain extension don't play as much a role as source of backlinks.

Getting a lot of links from UK sites will help your ranking in the UK, and vice versa.
