Should I build hundreds of backlinks and then submit my site to the search engines?

If I make lots of backlinks to my website and put 300 backlinks in a week for my website and then submit my site to the search engines, do you think Google would discover the backlinks and blacklist my site for too many backlinks in a short period of time? Thanks

If you build backlinks then you shouldn't need to submit your site to the search engines as it will find it via the backlinks. I think that 300 in a week is far too many though and you'll just end up in the sandbox.

Concentrate on backlinks and don't mind about submitting to search engines... you site will get indexed without submitting to SEs..

Don't submit to search engines. Rather, submit your site to directories, do some article marketing, perhaps a few social bookmarks, and participate in forums. If you do some of that each day or week, you will build backlinks in an organic manner, and the search engines will find you, index you, and promote you.

Simply put you dont need to submit, I did a site recently which i put up a new sites, linked to the site from another older site- the site was in google in less than 24 hours. There is some question if the submit actually does anything....

I would however create a Google XML sitemap (search for the Google webmaster area) and submit that as then changes show more quickly....

I see you are new to this forum...just keep in mind, there are so many "opinions listed as facts "on forums that you can get a different point of view every day..........

As for the "Number one rule" above...beware opinion....unless it is backed up with facts...........

Also I believe the is a right way and a wrong way to vary backlink text ...eg right: baby clothes, large baby clothes, super baby clothes. wrong way: baby clothes, baby clothing, baby jackets.

You are right Paul, too much of the same anchor text could set off an alarm on Google. I agree, there is a right way and a wrong way to do anchor text.

What's wrong with submitting your site to Google? They set up the webmaster tools for that reason?

Submitting your site to Google tells Google that your site is new and it should not be trusted.

Interesting, So does google put you in the sandbox for having too many backlinks too soon, or just if they are all the same anchor text, from low rankled sources?

e.g in a case where someone made some awesome video on you tube, and everyone was back linking it, could google possibly sandbox it?

    or rather

if i spent 4 hours a day in Y! answers and various forums, just answers questions with my sig. could this potentially harm me?

It would harm you if you put 100 links in one day and nothing for the rest of the week. Your links should be consistent/natural.

Yeah, but only if you add hundreds to thousands of backlinks in a day.

      Hi themindvoid,

There is no such thing as a sandbox, there is a phenomenon that is commonly called the "sandbox effect" that is nothing more than a temporary boost in rankings for new pages. Some folks "feel" like they are put into a sandbox when this temporary boost wears off, its just an imaginary place in the mind of confused new webmasters.

      @conjamuk,

I've never heard of anyone being banned for getting too many relevant backlinks too fast, however a lot of new, low quality links will not help your SERPs and if they number in the thousands you could get the attention of the SE spamdexing teams.

As long as the backlinks are relevant and appear natural you will not have any problems. It takes time for new backlinks to earn trust value so it may appear that all your links have no trust when they are all recent. As long as your links are relevant and don't disappear as fast as they appeared you will be OK.

If you achieve 100's of back links then there will be no need to submit your site to the search engines they will do the job for you.
