What are you doing for SEO today?

Site optimization, link building, and article networks all seem to be thrown out the window after penguin & panda updates from Google. My site got hit pretty hard when BMR was de-indexed, and I'm really just looking to re-establish my rankings.
- Are there any blog networks out there still that people are getting results from(even if only temporary)?
Which SEO tactics should I be focusing on that are free? Everyone says viral and linkbait, however that is much easier said than done.
My domain has been registered for over 10 years, listed in DMOZ, short brandable 5 letter domain with an established clientele(offering services, online only, not local), PR4.
I think these are some pretty good fundamentals, so now how do I build on that?
