Most people will tell you not to worry about your density of keywords. Generally speaking just write good solid content and by doing that you keywords will be used naturally throughout.

However I do check my density just to compare it to other people in the top results to get an idea about where I stand. I usually try and shoot between 7-10%. A good site to use to check density is Ranks NL Webmaster Tools but having the right density doesn't mean you will get top rankings I have seen plenty of sites that have low density rank above others with higher density(but not to high)

But if you focus to much on making your density the same as other people it can cause the copy on your page to be awkward for people to read. You want to make sure you are focusing on the customer experience not just the search engines.

depend on what your market is there is no real magic formula for this some say that is between 8- 10% while others will say you want 12% and still other claim never go higher than 7%. The truth is nobody really know how google feels about this.

There are still things that you can do to help your success mainly, and this is what you always want to do, copy the people that are already in the top positions in you market. If you notice that the first three or four spots on Google have a keyword density of around 6% then you will also want to have your keyword density be around 6% or so. If you are a little higher or lower not a big deal. I wouldn't jump up to a 15% keyword density if everyone else has a 5%. Even though it probably wouldn't make any difference at all, better safe than sorry.

The fact is that it is not really that big an issue as far as other things that you should be focusing on for SEO. A good thing to remember is to use you keywords early and often.

You will benefit much more from having your keyword be naturally distributed throughout your page than trying to force them into a certain percentage of density amongst your text.

if you go to ranks.nl you can plug in the URL of the top sites in you market and they will analyze them for you including what the keyword density of each site is along with a lot of other useful information.

f you have sufficient numbers of keywords then it shows your site for the required keyword. If you have only one or two keywords into the 500 words articles your site may not be noticed. So you should use sufficient number of keywords on your content.
Experts says 2.5% of keyword density is very good.

as far as I know, the more words in the article, the more % density you should have.

I try to put the keyword once in each paragraph, and it seems to work fine.
