Why is This Confusing Me So Much?

I just had this thought and I just can't seem to figure it out.
It's so simple, but I just can't seem to understand.

It's the question of having your homepage as a static page or as a blog.

Until now, I always kept the homepage as a static page for all my websites.
I'm experimenting with having the blogroll on the home page, but I don't understand how you can rank for your keyword if your content always disappears.

For instance, you set your homepage to blog, and you set it up as showing max 3 posts per page. Then, you start ranking for your keyword. However, after you write a couple more posts, the content is all gone and 3 new posts are there replacing the old 3 posts. How do you not lose your rankings?

Isn't that like changing your static home page article everyday?

If you have a static homepage, that same content gets indexed and gets ranked in Google.

But what if you have a blog style homepage? Everytime you write a new post, the content that was there is bumped to the second page and new content is there in turn of the old. How do you consistently rank if the content on the page is always changing?
