How long does it take for backlink to be credited to your site by Google and a ranking change to reflect the backlink?

Does the site's rank get updated immediately after Google crawls the backlink? I've heard some people say the ranking changes only go into effect when Google updates its SERPs, which is 1-2 times per week. Is this true?

Actually, no one can tell you the exact answer about that question. There are so many factors that wee need to consider (possible factors) in determining how long Google will give credit to your website for the backlinks that you have built for it.

Quality is one thing that we could consider.

About the second question, we can't also give a concrete theory about that since the SERP is fluctuating rapidly. You can only (or sometimes) see or tell if you lose or gain rankings through some huge rank changes in the SERP.

if your site is frequently updated and has unique content, the positions have more chances to change else the Google updates the SERP at one or two times per week.

I don't know, but I'm pretty pissed about how my Alexa rank went down especially after downloading the tool bar and personally going to the websites where I have backlinked and not seeing any movement except for DOWN and not credit whatsoever.

Alexa rankings are a complete waste of time, they can drop randomly for now reason. It is used to indicate how much traffic a site gets but is very unreliable

Thanks, and right, I know this. But I like the bragging aspect of it. Not only that, I think a lot of these sites that quote how well you're doing (ex: clearwebstats.com) aren't very accurate, for instance they quote me have 200 or so visitors a day, when in reality my Analytics shows 300-400 a day and I think it's because my Alexa ranking brings it down. I'm not THAT worried about it, but one of the things I want to start doing is Link exchanging with like minded webmasters and websites that are slightly popular to help my traffic. But with an Alexa ranking of 1,900,000 I wouldn't be surprised if these webmasters end up laughing in my face. It's a bit frustrating. I'm trying not to worry about it, and in the mean time I just keep hammering away at my site.. but I can't help but keep it at the back of my mind..

It could take two hours, or two months, or never. Thats I suggest you build quality links, monitor your rankings, and vary anchor text based on your market. Counting backlinks is an absolute waste of time and resources.

You should always keep track of where your backlinks are and ping them. Don't ping them too much but pingging will let google know that there is new content there and needs to be indexed. pinggoat seems to work just fine. Also this is an advanced technique...set your crawl rate of your site higher and more spiders will crawl you. Hope this helps.

No one can predict the nature of Google while it evaluates and changes its SERPs. As its quite unknown for all of all. What you can do is the regular updates on your websites to get it quickly crawl and index.

You can also never predict which one activity or backlink is responsible to rank you for a particular keyword as Google always evaluates many links at a time while assigning your website a rank on its SERPs.

I own a car shipping business and I needed to start doing my own online marketing because of budgets. From what I have gathered in my extensive research into this I have found that each link is different. It depends on the website the link is from and how many pages that site has and what the authority of that site has. That will let me know if Google will see the link quickly or not. It can take a couple of hours, couple of days or even a month or more.

I will say that if the page where the link is on is available, Google will crawl the page eventually and give you credit for the link.

I also wouldn't hold your breath when doing link building strategies because it can take time because you need to build the amount of links in a natural fashion. You cannot just dump 1000's of links within hours and think you'll jump in the ranks. Most likely Google will recognize that and think it is spammy. Just be natural about it and do a few links a day or whatever and good thing will come.

Backlinks are the backbone of a website which helps it to increase its ranking in Google Search engine quickly. A quality backlink has the power to build a huge ranking quickly. A backlink has been crawled by Google whenever it has been submitted to the indexer tools and accordingly it ranks a website without delaying.

Whereas SERP ranking shows the ranking of Keywords which is not constant. It fluctuates as per the searches on the keyword increases or decreases. No one can judge how much time Google will take for giving it a top posting in its first page.

Until Google find the backlink and index it. It takes a long time now.
