Why are there no Adwords for some popular words?

I just searched for "video games". No Ads. Why would there be no ads for such a lucrative word? I assume Google is filtering ads out in some way.

Most likely, the term is much too generic and broad, and advertisers have learned Google will quickly take their money without getting a return. You can always bid on the term yourself, see how fast Google drains your account, and then see what, if any, money you made.

Doing the search I saw one ad, for an apparent different keyword, and saw this from Google in the ad box:

    "Ad related to video games"
What is happening is someone made the mistake of doing a broad match campaign for a somewhat similar keyword, and/or failed to negative match "video games" in their account, so Google is showing their ad for a search on video games and draining their account that way.
