Has anyone recovered from an unnautural link penalty due to BMR use?

Hi,

I am interested to know has anyone recovered from an unnatural link penalty placed on them after using Build My Rank or is everyone still in the toilet on this? If anyone has recovered from this, how have they done it? Also did they submit a reconsideration request? I've been trying to get some of my sites back up the SERPs but kind of feel like I am flogging a dead horse on this one.

Cheers in advance,
Seamy

I don't see anyone who using BMR had recovered from then, the penalty seo has still on effect.

So BMR has tanked everyone who has used it? Will those sites ever recover. Surely if Google wanted rid of them forever, they would just be de-indexed.

The sites I had that I used BMR on - I deleted the links using BMR's tools when they went down and spent the next couple months getting guest blog links for those sites - they came back, some of them better than before.

You can recover from getting an unnatural link warning from BMR.

    Here's how:

    1. Delete all links from BMR backoffice
    2. Clean up all other "artificial links", this is the serious part!
    3. DO NOT build links in the mean time
    4. File a reconsideration request a couple weeks later after everythings been cleaned up

Often times you WON'T win the first time, so you'll need to do some further link removal cleanup. That is the hard part but for some of us extremely worth it.

I had 6 of my sites lose rankings around the time of the BMR deindexing and about 3 of the are back. I usually don't bother trying to fix penalties so I didn't really do anything other then wait it out.

Did the sites that come back actually receive the unnatural link email before they dropped?

I'm interested to know if people have recovered sites that actually received the unnatural link email, without removing any links and submitting a reconsideration request.

I'm just sure that many people that are reporting that their sites have come back after dropping... aren't necessarily victims of the unnatural link penalty. They may be victims of Penguin and have recovered their sites by de-optimizing their backlink profiles... but they weren't ever in a "penalty".

      So could you clarify that?

      Cheers!

I don't use Google webmaster tools so I don't know what notifications I would have received.

Well then you need to register in order to find whether or not you received the penalty. After registering and verifying domain ownership you'll instantly receive the warning if your site received one.

Unfortunately that's one of the only sure fire ways to see if you received this penalty.

Wait it out? Its been about 3 months. I've removed all links straight away. They went down came back and then penguin hit. So maybe penguin is the issue. How do I recover from that? Should I go in and change all my link anchors?

You need to build QUALITY links - no blog network crap - and diversify the anchor text. If you build quality links continually and consistently you'll come back.

Or just put up a new site and start building quality links to that.

      Hey Frank

I'm gonna venture to guess you've never actually recovered a site from an unnatural link penalty have you?

The advice you gave is good for PENGUIN recovery, but not sites that have been crushed by an unnatural link warning.

If you think building quality, artificial links, is gonna get you out of an unnatural link penalty then you clearly haven't recovered a site from an unnatural link warning.

Does changing the anchor text on your existing links work?

One of the penalties for poor anchor text variation (basically all the links to your site had the same anchor text - that is bad). You can change anchor text to fix this, or get some social bookmark packages with varied anchor text.

This is true for Penguin, not an unnatural link warning.

Im too new to post links, but there's a lot of details on SEOMoz about how to do it. Or use services like Removeem.com, LinkDelete.com if you don't want to do it yourself.

You cant file a resubmission for the penguin update, but you can for unnatural link penalties.

I managed to get an unnatural link penalty removed - essentially you have to demonstrate that you have removed the links or most of them. It takes about 6 weeks to hear back but they do listen.

Stop using BMR and deindex all of the links. delete them and then apply for activation. I think it will work. Some people has recovered form BMR effect.

BMR went out of business in March, and subsequently removed its entire portfolio of articles (whether you wanted them live or not) through April.

I have 2 sites that are still penalised because of BMR despite all posts being removed and reconsideration requests made (and turned down by Google, despite no other artificial links built). I doubt I'm a victim of negative SEO; rather Google is really holding a massive grudge against anyone who used BMR, or perhaps "most" of us.

In 2012, Google think quality content can only be signalled by quality links only, and that quality content that has quality links AND some spammy blog network links has to be low quality content, hence their permanent penalty for unnatural links.

I can't start my sites again under a brand new domain as Matt Cutts suggest I do. They are branded and already have a following, have printed materials emblazoning their domain name, and yes - they are brands in their own right (sorry Google!). They can survive on their own without Google through word of mouth and other marketing channels, even if Google think they're nothing but scum of the earth spam sites. I guess real human beings think different to the Google algorithm.

John Mu of Google also suggested that if it's the case you're under a permanent penality, then just physically remove the "offending" page altogether to create a 404 error (see here :- seroundtable.com/404-links-google-15427.html) - hmm, not actually very useful is it, especially if its a home page.

Yeah BMR and Penguin effect hacked many of us pretty hard. :-(

The best way to over come "Penguin" effect and getting back:

    1) Guest Blogging
    2) Forum participation.
    3) Manual contextual Link Exchange

Is Google likely to lift this penalty anytime soon? As I said before if Google wanted rid of these websites, they would have just been de-indexed and that would be that. I only got an un-natural link penalty e-mail in webmaster tools for one of the websites but all websites which participated in BMR were hit with a penalty. I have built some pretty strong links to these websites since they have bombed, which I think I might re-link to my new websites. is this a good idea or will it show Google that there is a connection between these websites and the penalized sites? This should not matter, as Google is penalizing the websites and not me personally.
