How To Increase Your Adsense CTR

Many people have been wondering how to get a high CTR on adsense with niche sites. So here are a few tips to keep in mind:
  • Blend your ads with the theme color. If you sites theme is red, then make your adsense ads red.
  • Use Premium Ad Placement - If you don't know what this is then search something like "ad placement heat map" on Google
  • When you're doing your keyword research you need to pick high converting keywords that have a high amount of advertisers targeting those keywords. Actually look at some of your competitors sites and see what ads are showing up. If my keyword is "red apples" and the ads that show up are not about apples, then your CTR is not going to be that high.
  • Write good content. If you have crappy content, especially in your first few sentences, then people will immediately leave your page. So always use good relevant content.
  • Once you find a good keyword that converts - Dominate the Niche! Find out what long tail keywords your competitors are targeting and ranking for and outrank them. The fact is, if one keyword has a high CTR, then it's likely that other keywords within that niche also have a high CTR because the same laser targeted advertisers are hitting those keywords as well.

Mosa, what are your thoughts about using section targeting with adsense?

I feel that if your content on the page is already relevant, then you won't really need to worry about using section targeting. For my sites, I've never added it at all.

Thanks for the info! Another question, do you mark your channels as targetable for advertisers? I haven't seen it yet, but I was told this could potentially make you more money as an advertiser might pay more to specifically show an ad on your site.

Another method for better CTR is having your ads set for both text and image ads. Your thoughts?

I've added section targeting on my sites. I figure it can't hurt it, but only help it.

Have you seen any improvement in the quality of ads showing? From what I read it could take a few weeks before it takes affect.

Hey SillySoft. I can't tell you with 100% honestly if it worked better or not. Its one of the very first lines of code that I always put in. I've made some good money with adsense, so I would say it works.

Here is the part I was referring to about targeting channel:

"Increase your reach to additional advertisers
Some people who advertise through AdSense prefer to stick with "Ad Placements" to control exactly when and where their ads show up. If you're not creating custom channels and making them available for targeting by those running Ad Placements, you're limiting yourself from an entire segment of advertisers willing to bid for the ad space on your site. And again, the more people that bid to appear on your site, the higher your earnings should be."

I also highly suggest people go to the Adsense blog and Adsense youtube channel, a wealth of knowledge about how to increase your adsense earnings which includes the power of turning on both image/text for ads.
Sillysoft, that's actually a great tip! Honestly I've never done this myself, but I should definitely incorporate it!

Good advice. I'd add that while things like an "ad placement heat map" is a good pointer, the only way you can really find out what gets the best results for you, is split testing.

I'm not really sure what you mean by mark the channels as targetable for advertisers.

I know that I do have some sites marked for both image and text, and I have some ads just marked for text. Basically I looked at my CTR for text vs images, and noticed that on some of my ads, the text ads had a better CTR. I haven't yet seen any instances though where the images are doing much better than text yet.

I definitely agree with split testing. You can really increase your CTR a lot if you do this effectively.

In my opinion, you will increase him by making a lot of presence of your website on social media. Social media is the best way to increase the visitors on your website as well as increase your adsence CTR.

For evene better CTR, if you use wordpress, use some of the random ad placement plugins. What do I mean by this? This are the plugins that change place of your ads. So, if you (or your visitor) read your post first time, top inpost ad will be left aligned, middle will be left aligned, and bottom will be right aligned. But when you(or your visitor) read the post for a second time, now the top ad will be right aligned middle will be left, and bottom will be left. So every time the ads are on different place. In this way you can avoid your visitors ad blindness. I doubled up my CTR in this way.
