Learning SEO still worth it these days?

hey folks,

I have a serious interest in learning SEO and then eventually providing quality SEO services for people but I have some doubts that need to be cleared.

Sure SEO is changing all the time but does it look like we can reach a point in a few years that is not important at all anymore and tat you can really do it as a "job" anymore?

I mean will there always be "work" for people with good SEO skills?

Or is this something that will be declining over time..

Just to get to the point: will it be worth my time to learn SEO properly and putting a lot of focus on it right now?

I would love to have some insights from people that know the SEO game very well

    If do it well, you will get good results. That's always worth something, for your own content, and for clients. Most people are currently doing SEO badly, because they are using outdated advice, but on the other hand, the advice that clients are aware of will also usually be outdated, so even if SEO would have no real benefit today, you'll still find clients that will pay for it, for many years to come!

    My advice is to learn up-to-date SEO techniques, and keep up to date with it, that way you can make more money from your own content, and/or help clients as well.

    Hey Chuck,

    SEO is essential for driving traffic to the websites.
    1. It'll be in demand as people will always need traffic on their website.
    2. May be different parameters will keep on adding to it like social networking, fresh content etc, But there will always be some method to rank the website..

    I would suggest you to go ahead with it..

    As SEO keeps changing, we need to proportionally get changed. We should be able to adapt the changes, like before there were black hat techniques like keyword stuffing etc, but there is no such technique now. So we are now applying new changes. Try to gain knowledge on what is changing then implement that method, you will succeed.

    Learning SEO is surely essential if you wish to promote your website yourself or even manage the promotion of your website by hiring professionals.

    Having Knowledge will not hurt in any way and can also help you to identify pitfalls in the way.

    Just because something keeps changing is no reason to not learn it ... imagine Amazon.com stopping all online sales, etc. just because shopping cart technologies keep changing too fast.

    Chris told you the right thing. If you really want to learn SEO then you have to learn it properly. You can earn a lot for your SEO business and in the mean time by using the SEO skills you can establish your own websites which will give you a life long return. And SEO will never end but as competition is increasing so it will be tougher every day.

    There will always be work in SEO cause other people simply don't have the time for it. My largest/repeat clients don't outsource it cause they can't do it theirselves.
