There you go: BBC News - Facebook 'likes' and adverts' value doubted

Just one of the many reasons why I quit doing social signals in my packages, it's all fake and many accounts for Google+1's, Retweets, Repins, Likes, Votes on bookmarks are getting deleted by the sites cause it's pure spam.

Want to get involved in social signals? Make them real!

Why do you seem surprised???? With social signals influencing search results, of course there will be a sea of fake accounts. Spam gets everywhere.

The trick is post interesting and engaging content on social portals. No good throwing in any old post with the odd image and wonder why you are generating no traffic. Write for people not for exposure and traffic will start to flow.

Nothing new here of course but I thought it funny that the bbc picked it up, the more media exposure it gets the more the social sites feel they have to do something about it.

Tons of people are screaming that social media is the new SEO blablabla while 99 out of 100 people are faking it, which gives zero benefit to seo so it's good to mention that once in a while.

I saw the report on the BBC lunchtime news a couple of hours ago.

Seems that a lot of big companies have been duped - can't believe it
took them this long to figure it out.

I don't know any serious person who "liked"
FB likes. Nobody with half a brain would ever
        think they mattered en masse.

Google has said all along it's not how many,
but who. They say this about all social.

This will, of course, come as a shock to those
that continue to practice voodoo SEO, think
that some knucklehead on fiverr is going to
somehow make them boatloads of cash for 4 bucks.

Fake friends will give you fake results. Same could be
        said about youtube, twitter, etc.

FB is social. Social is not business. Again, can't say
I have not been saying that for years. People fall
all over it because it beats hardwork.

The real news today is digg being sold. Same thing
could be said. Digg was done a long time ago.

FB and it's worth have been one of the biggest myths
going around. Remember when people here were saying
how FB is taking over google? The logical ones like me,
knew better. People continue to tout the number
of members, but fail to look at the bottom line.

        The bottom line is everything.

FB: Overpriced, overhyped, overused. See sig.

I guess some social media marketing agencies are going to get some tough questions to answer lol.

Imagine as being a large company you paid $5000,- to increase your visibility on Facebook, and the guy just bought a few Fiverr gigs with fans lol

    Love your signature indeed

You know what's it, tons of people are talking about diversifying your traffic sources and that social media = the way to do it, then you get questions like "hey don't you offer any social links?" That's when I decided to add retweets / likes / plus one's / digg votes etc. Then I found out it was pretty expensive and the SEO benefit was zero.

So I removed it again from my packages and replaced it with better stuff.

Guess what? Sales dropped right away!

I would almost add it again purely for the sales value, but I won't, it's replaced with stuff that does work now and the ranking results will speak for itself.

Gold words. Digg was flavour of the month 4 short years ago with IMers. I didn't get it - who the hell wants a bunch of skint teenagers visiting your site? They don't monetise. Facebook traffic doesn't monetise - proven already by the big brands (those who would have been MOST likely to monetise). Facebook is a social platform, not a business one.

There's this collective idiocy with businesses when it comes to both Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn (yes even the so-called business platform), et al - an obsession with platforms that have crappy conversion rates - platforms that are not designed for selling TO (LinkedIn is NETWORKING, not SELLING services - VERY VERY DIFFERENT THING). In fact, on LinkedIn, join a group there and see what a joke it is with people marketing to each other, nobody listening. Spam all the way.

Facebook claims it can get you to pinpoint demographics to sell to, but those very demographics have weak INTENT when it comes to buying. They're socialising. In a search engine, the intent is already proven by the keywords used.
