Best way to track inbound links in a PDF file

I have a number of free PDF books out in the wild to generate clicks back to my website. I'm in the process of revising them all and want to change the links so that I can track the specific PDF that was the source of the click.

I'd prefer to do this onsite, perhaps with a Wordpress plugin, although I do have aweber and bit.ly accounts available. I prefer to not use Google Analytic.

Any ideas and guidance would be appreciated.

You can think of using StatCounter. I haven't used it but you could try it.

Thanks for the responses. I know what bit.ly will do, ,so I think I'll test Piwik and StatCounter. I've installed both to see how they will do once I begin testing the PDF links.
