Ouch! YouTube Video Hurts More Than It Helps?

I have a simple question.

I have about 30 YouTube videos that link to various pages on my insurance websites (some main page and some inner pages). That is, I have placed the URL in the description.

I have never put a video (YouTube or whatever) directly on one of my website pages that gives a URL on YouTube where it could be found. I always assumed I was giving away link juice by instead of linking to another inner page, linking to a YouTube video, even if it is one I made.

Is that the right thinking or should I be linking to some YouTube videos on some of my pages?

Thanks.

I always thought that it was best to have links in the vids ON YouTube linking back to your site.

Have your keyword as the video title, and the url included in the description.

    Hope that helps

That's what I thought. So...I assume it is NOT a good idea to place videos on your website that link to YouTube.

I've never heard of anyone doing the link that way round, so no.

      Cheers,

By having links from preferrably high PR pages, you page may be viewed as highly sought-after. This way your page will show up closer to the top on the search display. YouTube happens to have a really high PR, so it would make sense to list your URL on your YouTube video's description, creating that link juice.

The advantage of embedding YouTube video ON your pages is that if the video gets watched enough, it then creates a link from your page to YouTube, and that's a high-PR outgoing link, which improves Google's view of the social context of your site, and thus goes towards improving your traffic.

You can see social context in the same way that you can tell a lot about someone by looking at their friends. If your site has outgoing links to high quality high-PR sites, that tells Google that this is the kind of company you keep. If your site had any outgoing links to low quality sites, then that might get you less traffic. So outgoing links are important (as well as incomming ones).

Wikipedia is always good for high-quality outgoing links, as well as YouTube.
