Follow/NoFollow/Web 2.0 properties

Hi all,
Was thinking of creating an article on a web 2.0 property (like hubpages) and then placing a link in it to a video (on my site) - but - when clicking on the video, it will require registration / membership to the site.
My understanding is that in order for this to work, the site has to have "Follow" enabled(?) Do sites allow this kind of thing - where clicking on an icon produces a pop-up that requiring a membership? Is this kosher or tacky?
