SEO for a image gallery page

I intend to have a page with just a image gallery (about 10+ images). They will be product shots (e.g. photos of Canon 50D). I will not be including any text on this page.

Are 10 images sufficient content for this page? Or is it still considered thin? What should I add?

    • Try to add a short description to each image. Use tags. Include the ALT attribute. You can also submit a few pictures to sites like Flickr and include a link back to your page in your profile.

You will be fine if you get your tags optimised. Im assuming the rest of the site has lots fo other content on it so the 1 page of images will help overall.

Image galleries are easy to rank, here's what's most important:
    • Keyword in page title
    • Keyword in Alt text
    • Keyword in short plain text caption below image
    • Keyword in anchor text link in caption below image, the link will open the image in a new browser window/tab

Do those things above & you'll rank your images.

I am not as worried about ranking for that 1 page of images as opposed to suffering a penalty (Panda) for weak content.

Thanks for the flickr suggestion. I will try that with Facebook as well (is it possible?).

Are you referring to them ranking in Google's Image Search or Web Search?

Ranking in both Google Image & Organic search.

When you rank the image in Google Organic search, the image will automatically rank in Google Image search.

Even If the image doesn't show up in Organic search as a thumbnail image, the process is the same for ranking in Image search.

I rank a lot of thumbnail images in Organic search.

try to increase your keyword density by adding short description, image caption, alt tag and more. share your images on top social networking sites like pinterest, Facebook, LinkedIn etc to get more referral visits.

This has been beat to death, either add a small description to each image or write an optimized article at the bottom of the page describing the gallery.

Short description , Yes, article No. An article is major overkill to rank an image.

If you think that those images are enough to explain your concept clearly to your visitors then it is fine. But if those images not perform well to explain then it will the biggest disadvantage to have only images and not the content.
So place such images that can act well to make the concept clear and one thing you can do is that place the video to your site if do not want to put any text.

Are you suggesting that videos can replace text? So similarly it would be ok if I have 1 page with only 1 embedded video?

Try to add some text as well, it's quite difficult to rank with just images. Optimize your images properly by the use of alt and title tags

My Idea will be to add ALT attribute to all the images with Anchor text which is already by fellow friends. I will also recommend you to post those images to different social media websites with the file name as the keyword....
This will optimize the images in Major Search Engine and also try to popularize it in those social media websites.
If you rank the website in Google then just put some short description about the images in those pages so that it looks natural.
Try this out and I really think those images will show up in Search Engine

Image file names don't have much SEO weight.

It's really tough to get ranking on website that only contain images because Google isn't crawling images but if you put your image names on image's alter-tag then it would be great chance to get ranking. It should be surely working for get ranking on image gallery page.
