    They do help a small amount. Meta tag, a while ago, were the main reason you ranked highly. Nodays, they don't do much.

    Having an entice meta description WILL help with traffic to the site. If your CTR increases because of your meta description you will be better off in the SERPS, so indirectly they still help.

    OK, this question seems to have brought out all the spambots, so safely ignore them.

    The only meta tag that has any relevance to SEO is the meta description. This should be thought of as your "call to action".

    It's important to note that Google may ignore your meta description if it determines your article body is more important/relevant.
