If you write good quality comment it shall still worth except you shall not having blog comment as only strategy for your SEO as well as you shall not post comment on auto approval sort of blog posts where spam comments are already in existence.

Use blog comments as a way to create authority and get referral visitors though. But don't count them out just because they're no ideal for SEO.

Yes Google still gives value to backlinks but the main thing is from where are you getting those backlinks. In blog comments if you are getting quality backlinks from do follow links then it helps you get up in rankings but ample number of no follow links does not create much difference in your search engine rankings as those links do not get cached.

A lot of people will say no, and confuse legitimate comments with mass comment spam. (Which is pretty useless since most of the comments / links are going to be on pages that have zero value. Mainly from being spammed-to-death, PR N/A, nofollow, etc.)

However, leaving legitimate comments on quality blogs (DoFollow, moderated, etc.) is still a method that is going strong.

There can also be an indirect benefit from leaving good quality blog comments. As they will be read by both the blog's owner and readers, there's the possibility that you may earn a more powerful backlink if someone likes your site.

Also, comments from popular / niche related blogs may bring in a fair amount of traffic to your site.

I know of plenty of people that use backlinks successfully to rank their sites. Ideally, you want them to be from your niche and dripped.

Blog commenting still have good value in the eyes of Google provided the site has less OBL(Out Bound Link), relevant to your niche and small + consistent links are created.. PM me if you want to know in detail..

Yes is still work but you should comment on page relative to your niche or some high PR page or Gov and Edu page that has less then 100 comments...
