Market Samurai is definitely a huge waste of money. SEMrush is ok, but money could be better spent on something else. It really depends on what you are looking for the tool to do. Just saying SEO is pretty broad. Do you want to track rankings, analyze keywords, discover and analyze backlinks, etc?

That is the point. As those tools are sold in the market, it proves that they have value. But all tools are not good for all work. Which one you should use is totally dependent on what the result you are asking from that.

With any SEO software you should really have a use or requirement in mind first. Such as what could you do with automating? What information could you do with, or tasks being carried out using software? Once you know exactly what you are looking for you'll beable to decide pretty easily.

It does nothing useful really. It's rank tracker is complete garbage. I know people like it's SEO competition module, but honestly, that is not telling you anything useful. The number of backlinks a page or site has really does not tell you much of anything. The PR of a page when trying to judge if you can beat it or not is pretty useless. The onpage factors are all a wash because you can easily duplicate those.

You can look at a site's backlinks, but it really does not give you enough information about backlinks to make a good decision. SEO SpyGlass is far superior for that. So is SEOmoz, Ahrefs, and Majestic.

And the keyword module is the slowest goddamn thing in the world.
