In Google's attempt to be more transparent, I think things just got more confusing.

So now "innocent" sites will be getting the unnatural links message as well. I thought though some "innocent" sites were getting that message already. Many people had reported getting it, but then never seeing a drop in rankings.

The way I read this message is that in the past if you received an unnatural links message, then you definitely had funky links and the algorithm had taken action against your rankings. Now, however, if you get the message, you may or you may not be screwed, but we're not telling.

Hopefully people are waking up and not still doing the same old crappy link building techniques, if so we don't really need to worry about this.

I think they are doing this because of the potential of Negative seo.

But I don't know how they can say they're being more transparent. They failed to release this month's list of search engine changes like they've been doing for the last few months. How's that for transparent?
