Hey all, it's me again.

Who here has a site (or sites!) that have ranked #1 in Google? Other than your actual website name search.

Also, how difficult was it for you to get ranked and what were some of your biggest hurdles to achieve rank 1-3?

    I think everyone could say they have done this depending on their keywords. I have my site listed #1 for many. It all depends on the difficulty of the word.

    Getting a #1 rankings is super simple if you are targeting low competition keywords.

    Getting a good ranking for highly competitive keywords is where you need to put the work in.

    I have many keywords in the top 3 even the #1 spot. I like going after the low hanging fruit ones that have no comp. in the top 10 and use EMD and sometimes it ends up on the first page without no backlinks.

    I don't have as many higher search volume rankings (10,000 to 22,000 exact US per month) at #1 since penguin, but I still got a bunch of #1 rankings for decent terms :-)

    As said above, getting a #1 ranking is as difficult, or not, as the competition for that phrase.

      That's interesting you brought this up. It has risen another question if I may ask.

      I've read many places about keyword competition, monthly searches, estimated traffic, QSR, KQI etc. etc. It seems there are a lot of fluctuating opinions on what a good Exact Per Month number is.

      If I'm going for the low hanging fruit like boxer said. What is a good Exact Per Month I should keep an eye out for?

      To answer your question...no! haha

      I don't have a completed site yet. I'm trying to research a little more while doing it to make sure I understand everything. That way when mistakes are inevitably made I won't get so flustered because I'll know how to fix it.

      Right now I've been reading a few nice articles on niche finding and keywords. It's helped me understand the beginning steps.

      As for web design I've been designing websites for a few years so I know my way around. I have no concept of drip feeds, backlinks, etc. etc. lol so I'm taking baby steps here.

        As a web designer (I am a web developer myself) ... focus on on-site SEO first. Head over to HubSpot and download their free guide. This should be easy since you know your way around the code, and you can design the site is it is extremely optimized (but don't over-optimize).

        After your on-page SEO is locked down, then you can focus on off-page.
