Newbie going after PR1 site with 3 BLs and needs advice!

Hi all!

This is my first post, great to be a part of WF.

I'm pretty new at SEO but I've been trained by a successful SEOer.

I just found a great niche market and the #1 site has a PR1 and 3 BLs, I was just wondering how long it takes to overtake the #1 site?

I launched my site yesterday and started SEO, I've copied the #1 site's 3 BLs and started backlinking with high PR sites, about ten BLs a day and pinging them.

Was just wondering if anyone else has been through this situation and how long it took them to get to number 1?(going after a site with a PR1 site and few BLs)

Another thing on my mind is the google PR update expected next month, I'm hoping I'll make the cut for a PR.

Many thanks in advance!

When your PR moves up it doesn't mean that your rankings will move up as well so you really don't have to hope/wait for that.

For the rest it's impossible to say how long it will take, sometimes you see PR1 sites that are 10 years old, at first glance it looks very easy to outrank them but cause of the age it can be a lot harder.

Question: What type of links are these high PR sites? If all the links only end up on pr n/a pages it can take quiet some time.

I would stop pinging your backlinks. If you are building good quality backlinks, there is no need to ping them. That is for garbage backlinks because there is no other way they will ever get noticed.

Also, nobody knows when the next PR update will be. Could be tomorrow. It could be in 2013.

What are you using to check your competitor's backlinks? They might have a lot more than 3.

      Hi MikeFriedman

Thanks for the reply, yeah, I have noticed that BLs with high PR pop up fast on my BL serp.

I manually check on google, just searched the url.

That won't give you anywhere near accurate information on backlinks.

I would use either SEOmoz's Opensite Explorer, Ahrefs.com, or my favorite, SEO SpyGlass.

    Hi Nik0,

Thanks for answering, random BLs from social networking sites, bookmarking sites, blog comments. There are all between 3-7 PR. that brings me to another question, to seem organic how many PR0-2 should I have?

    Thanks!

Well if you focus on these type of sites you don't need pr0-pr2 websites cause all your links already end up on pr n/a - pr0 pages. You can better ask how many PR1+ links you need

Anyway there is no answer to that but it's just bad practise to only have links on pages with no pagerank.

    Thanks MikeFriedman

Any of them free or are they all paid options?

All have both free and paid options. In a small niche, the free version of SpyGlass should be sufficient.

There is nothing wrong with searching the URL in Google it self, often it shows many more links then seomoz/ahrefs/majestic are showing.
