Really confused. Should I just Start A New Site

I have a 6 year old site. I register the domain myself and start working on it 6 years ago.

Like some warriors here, I did article submission, profile links, web2.0, social bookmark, directory, blog comments before. Most of the links are article and blogpost links.

It was hit by penguin on late April. Yet, I did not receive the unnatural link message from G webmaster. I suspect that it was the anchor text density which killed my site.

When I check my site opensiteexplorer, it shows that out of the 15k links, about 7k are with my two main keywords as anchor texts (about 3.5k for each keyword).

I tried to clear the profile links starting from May and it seems that there is no way to remove the blog comment links (since they are mostly spammed blogs). I also tried to build some new links using guest post, with my brand / site url as the anchor text.

After nearly three months, there is still no luck to bring the website back. It seems that it is quite difficult to make the number of branded / url anchor text to something like 3.5k.

What is even worse is that I got the unnatural link message on 19th.

So, I am just confused whether i should just start a new site instead of trying to bring the old one back. Though I want to keep the brand of the old site, it will just be too stupid to do so if there is no much hope to do it.....

Did you traffic further decrease on the 19th ?

If yes, I wouldn't bother filing a reconsideration request. You probably wont be able to remove enough of those links to satisfy them.

Switch to a new domain without doing a 301. Then select what you feel are you best links and try to get them updated to point to the new domain.

It seems that search traffic did not change on 19th. But from april, the search traffic decreases from 8xx / day --> 3xx / day ---> 1xx / day....

If I switch to a new domain, my plan is to change the old domain to something like

"we have rebranded, you can find the resources you are looking for at
      xxxxxxx.com"

But it is really a dilemma. I am confused whether I should start a new site or keep trying to bring the old one back.

I would recommend buying expiring domain from the auction relative to your niche find domain 1 year + old if you tried with brand new domain it may be difficult to rank in short period of time...

Well, I will probably do that if I decide to brand a new domain. The only thing is that I have put a lot of efforts to brand the old one. And it is also linked to my offline business (though the business is strongly associated with the old site). That's why I am still a bit hesitate...

Perhaps you can purchase a .NET domain with the same name as your previous domain (assuming it was a .COM). This way you can retain some brand value.

You can actually do both. You can try to bring back your old site back using any "naturalization" technique or method and meanwhile you can start building a new site in case your old site never makes it out.
