If you honestly think your website got slapped for the wrong reason, i would submit a ticket to google. After penguin they issued this. A bunch of people got their sites back up because the algorythem wrongly penalized them.

But a reconsideration request will work only if there has been manual action taken against the site. If the site went down because of algorithmic changes, a request would be a waste of time.

Also, the Penguin feedback form that Google has is basically for Google to further improve the algorithm. They will not be manually bringing those sites back.

RE content: Google is not human, so, it doesn't perceive your content as a human being. A person may look at your content and find it great and appealing, but Google will use certain signals to determine whether it nice or not.

For example, they will count how many people actually click on your page in the search results and how many people bounce right back off, etc. Also, links are still used to determine whether a site deserves to be ranked high in the search results or not.

So, I would say, continue link building, try to diversify your link profile, pay particular attention to your anchor texts.

How can one tell whether it was a manual action or not though? I just discovered an older sit of mine got de-indexed, I'd like to get it back into google.

Try guest posting. Also, add more diversity in your anchor text. Make sure you have alot of links that say "click here" or your website name. Consider some natural forum posting and blog comments. Submitting to directories may also help.

Hi,

Once you have ensured that there are no major site errors, duplicate content and/or generally bad onpage optimization AND you haven't done any major spammy link blasts or anything like that, then do like RedClickSEO says and submit a reinclusion request.

I'm assuming that you are still adding content, pinging, sending social media traffic to the new content and building links no?

The best advice is this that you have to avoid all the spam links which are you doing for ranking. Google can't accept spamming now it will delete all the copy content from their search engine.

Google Penguin and Panda both of the update in concern of quality and quality that exactly done by Google. As far as Google Panda is concern that its all about quality because panda filter the result of low quality content where Google Penguin is all about spamming and low quality back links.

Always focus on high quality content.Write atleast 400-500 words articles.After these Google Updates I feel that Google is giving priority for the content with more words but I recommend you to keep the content short and concise otherwise no one will read your content.Get more comments though you write a short articles then your articles will rank high.

I would suggest to continue with your quality link building process and keep on updating your site frequently. For the time being, don't worry about Google. If you follow up your link building and site updates, I guess, you will get your rank back. But it will take some time as far as I experienced

I have read a lot about Penguin Updates and I came to know that some of the best methods to get your site back on rankings is to remove the spammy links and replace the content with some fresh new content. Check in the bad neighborhood to check if the sites linking to your website have some bad links associated with them. Also check in the Blacklist directory if your site is blacklisted in the spammers list. Check for keyword stuffing on the web pages and check the updated new rules for keyword density on the web pages.

The problem with that is, what constitutes as a spammy link? Is it a link from a site with high OBL and low PR? If so, you usually have no control over those sites so there is no way to remove it.

Well if you have made spammy links, it's quite difficult to delete them so I suggest you make more backlinks that are not spam. It's the same concept as adding more water to a salty soup. What would you do if your soup is salty? Add more water right? Also, do tiered-pyramid linking as your strategy. This will help to prevent you from getting penalized and of course make everything natural - these are all aside from getting fresh and unique content.

For the more recently hit sites - from my understanding the reinclusion requests are only for those who received a manual penalty. If you didn't get a notification in webmaster tools about suspicious linking then it's probably algorithmic and the request won't help.

I'd just keep building links but really focus on varying anchor text, include url's, site names, randoms like "click here" and lots of interior linking.

Removing spammy links is great but like jasono says it's tough to do and I agree with him, it's probably a better ROI to build more links then try to remove them.

As many here said, diversification is the best! Maybe just buy some more links on fiverr (yes it is Ok) - something like, wiki, pligg, blogs post and so. I have some links you want to good sellers for those links.

you have to remove all those spammy links that you have created, then you will have to apply to Google for reconsideration.
at this time don't think about building links.
I think its the only way to get back some reputation.

You look for a webmaster contact details on the site that links to you and send them a request to remove the links. It should be something like webmaster@... or admin@... They may not respect it, tough.

Here are some signs of spam links:

- they are often the links you didn't build yourself
- they come from completely unrealted websites/crappy websites
- they come from the same domain/IP address
- they come from crappy, unrelated blogs/forums
- the same anchor text is repeated many times (for example, if you sell blue widgets, the anchor would be "blue widget" a hundred times)
- etc.

Sometimes there is barely no way to identify a spam link. In some instances you can do it only by carefully studying the linking site.

Also, if you think the link is bad it doesn;t mean that Google also knows/thinks it's bad. So, if you decide to remove links, do so bit by bit and watch the results closely.

How social is your site? If your posts are quality and your rankings are down, why not prompt people to share your content?

If you don't have a FB fan page get one and start trying to get some more engagement, get people to chat and reply to your posts. If they recognise you on Facebook they are more likely to share content that is posted to your Facebook or your website.

If you can get your content shared you hit a double whammy, you get backlinks done for you and you also get links that Googles seems to see as very powerful (in my experience since penguin).
