Leveraging a Authority Site

A competitor of mine is leveraging his authority site to boost the rankings of a new site of him.

All of the links his new website has are from his big authority sites. That's why he has now over 17,200 links.

All with the same anchor text.

And best of all, he is beating my ass.

I thought that Post Panda Footer links and Powered by links aren't getting good results anymore...

So my question is it still possible to gain good rankings by just putting footer links on big, relevant websites, because if that's the case I really want to invest to buy some of those links on relevant websites to get the same result as this Mofo.

    Are the links similar niches?

    Yes.

One in the software niche and one in the app niche. His app website is completely relying on the links from his software website, which means that if he removes the link from the software website he will end up having zero links.

Still he's now dominating almost all keywords in the SERPS with just 1 authority website.

    Is that still powerful?

Penguin doesn't exactly target sitewide links. Manipulative sitewide links often have keyword rich anchor text and those were hit pretty bad.

Sites with Sitewide links that were anchored with branded terms like domain.com or an image with alt tag - domain or domain.com, were largely not affected.

So is this competitor using a branded term or keyword rich ?

Either way, don't do what he's doing. Go after more diversity in incoming links.

    Hi Retsek,

This competitor is using a link in the menu to his own website.

    So he has this:

Home - Link to his another website - About us - Contact

Why don't you spend your time building up an authority site like your competitor did? Then you can have 18,000 links for your new ventures when you start them.

That seems more productive to me.

    Hi Justmoretravel,

That's exactly what I am doing. I have 3 college students that are writing 30+ articles for me each day.

The problem is that I can't build links for 30+ articles per day. Thus, none of them is doing good in the SERPS.

You don't need to 'build' links to every single article you publish on a large site. Where'd you learn that ?

Go read up on site structure and the benefits of internal linking.

How do you think internal pages on large sites rank with little or no external backlinks ? It's certainly not by magic. Analyse their sites. What do you see in common among them all ? It's usually a combination of good site structure + tons of quality incoming links using branded terms to their homepages and primary pages immediately under that.

    @ Retsek

Yes, I know it's impossible to build links for each website, but it's also unnatural to only build links to your homepage..

I automatically convert tags into links within my website (when it's found in antoher post). I also have 6 categories where all of my posts are listed in. Theses categories do appear in the sidebar on each page. That's my site structure.
