Linkbuilding with bookmarking sites?

Hi everybody!

Another expert level question for which i don't find explanation on the web. I only find lists of bookmarking social sites. Hope you still stay balanced at the end of my thread : )

I am reading gigs offered on an IM site. There are offers called social bookmark of a website. What is this thing really? Is it something like changing or updating the status on Facebook or for example me to post someone's website link on my wall?

    Basically people will (generally) spam social bookmarking sites with your link if you buy one of those gigs. They don't really hold much weight in terms of rank improvement if done this way but they might help get your site indexed quicker

    They are a pretty low level link which can help a brand new site out - but you're better off to spend some time and create some quality bookmarks your self at the start.

      Thank you for your answer. I think i miss the explanation of creating bookmarks myself. Do you mean- me to register in tumblr or some other bookmarking site and start posting things there? Articles, posts?

        What gigs like this usually offer is posting bookmarks to sites created with Pligg. These sites often serve little purpose other than providing internet marketers with backlinks.

        Don't get me wrong, I'm not against bookmarking in the right circumstances. They can provide anchor text diversity and are also useful as second tier links in a pyramid. But you should check any gig out thoroughly, to try and ensure that the bookmarks won't be placed on a site that's overly spammy.

    Thank you guys really, it helps me to imagine something but still i don't know what is a "social bookmark" . For example in my browser there is a bookmark bar and when i like some thread here in the forum i add it in my browser's bookmark (favorites). However i doubt this is the same about social bookmarking as they are not browsers. Is it something like posting on Fb wall or so? I am sorry to annoy you, any tip about what is bookmark is a big key. Thank you

    You could do bookmarking as your tier 2 links. Just don't spam.
