If my keyword is 'dog training' - is that 2 keywords or 1 keyword?

If I write exactly a 500 word article and using 2% keyword, does that mean I use dog training 5 times or 10 times?

please disregard anything about density, that's not what I'm asking.

Actually google will look at it as one keyword. You can have the best of both worlds here if you use it as one keyword your required number of times, but also use the single words "dog" and "training" scattered through your article.

In your article you would count each word separately for word count, but you would have to have the combo 10 times (500 x 2% = 10) for the keyword count..

Dog training is one keyword. We call it long tail keyword.

I think you made a calculation mistake! However if you are looking for maintaining 2% density then for 500 word article you are going to use keyword 5*2=10 times. For the long tail keyword "dog training" density will be 2%, 10 repetitions.

Regardless, dog training is not very original and I know for a fact that there are tons of other new affiliate/ppc marketers trying to rank for the same niche. Most likely due to something they saw in a webinar or training course. I'm telling you with your best intentions in mind, choose a different keyword.
