Ezine article outranking my article page?!?

So Im trying this article syndication and published 2 articles on Ezinearticles.com

The first one was published around July 1st, and the second article around the 15th.

For backlink in resource box I had to use a different page to link to than where the article is located per Ezine rules.

Now my site page was ranking around #10 for 30 days straight...Until yesterday where my site page isn't in top 100, and now my ezine article is top 10 and the page ezine article links to is now at 30 (which I wasnt even optimized for the keyword)

Only other change I made was deleting a link from StumbleUpon, but I dont think these backlinks are visible.

    Ok I have mainsite.com, mainsite.com/widget#1_article, AND maintsite.com/widget # 2_article

widget #2 page was ranking in top 10 for keyword "widget #2"

I submitted a nice article to ezine located on widget#2 page...However in my resource box Ezine told me I couldnt link to widget #2 page because of exact content.

Therefore in resource box, I linked to widget #1 page.

Now widget #2 page dropped from top 10 in Google to <100 ranking.

widget#1 page is now ranking at #30 for widget#2 keyword, despite not being nearly as deserving imo as widget#2 page

Should I just start putting my mainsite.com page in all my resource box links and quit trying to mix n match backlinks on Ezine?

I don't understand this - what exactly did they say?

How can that be connected to EZA, if you didn't even link to that page in EZA?

I always link to my landing page in articles. (I sometimes link additionally to an internal page).

Especially when your site's new, it's always possible for a copy of one of your articles on someone else's site to outrank your own site. (It's unusual for an article directory copy to do that, since all the Panda updates, but it can happen temporarily). That will be temporary, and every time you gain the initial indexation on your own site, it will make that more temporary and less likely for each future article. As long as you keep putting your articles on your own site first, and only submitting them anywhere else after they're indexed there, your site will be the one that generally ranks well.

"Your article has been placed in problem status because the link was found to be lacking in quality content. Please check your link and ensure that: * Your link does not contain more than one exit pop-up. * Your link's landing page is content-rich beyond advertising or products for sale. * Your link contains content that is relevant to the article's topic. * Your link does not contain the same content as your article body. Please edit your article to link directly to the content-rich pages on your site, or edit the link to add additional relevant informative content and resubmit for review."

I eliminated the other possibilities, because the article was accepted (meaning the content must've been good) and it has the same number of ads as the page that was eventually accepted.

Not to mention it states quite clearly not to have the same content.

How can that be connected to EZA, if you didn't even link to that page in EZA?
Connected because I outranked my own page, once by ezine article page, and once by my own page that was ranked #30...Im thinking Google has a problem ranking a new site for same keyword twice.

This last point makes a lot of sense....For the record I did have it indexed before posting to Ezine.

I still don't get the problem. Of course EZA does not want your article on their site to link to the SAME article on your site - not a good reader experience as most people don't want to read the same thing twice. That's obvious.

It's not true that "first indexed is highest ranked" - only true if the site on "first indexed" is more "important" than the other site in google's eyes. A new site isn't going to outrank EZA as a general rule though it does happen in some niches.

How old is your site - a new site will bounce around a LOT in ranking at first. A brand new site may appear to be "high" in rank when in fact it simply hasn't been assigned ranking yet by the search engine.

I think you are over analyzing. Just because 3-4 things happen in a time period doesn't mean they are all related or causative.

despite not being nearly as deserving imo
"in my opinion" has no effect on weight given to each by google. I have some older sites where a new article on EZA may outrank the site - at least for a while. So what? It's still MY link in the bio box that leads to my site.

Thanks Kay, I think you're reply is probably spot on.
