Hours spent to make a full time income

Okay I'm sure this has been brought up many times in the past but I'm sure times have changed. So......

About how many hours a day do you guys spend to make a full time income in internet marketing? I've heard stories where the beginning process usually takes the longest, but once you see the income flow you decrease your time to where you only devote 2-3 hours a day.

And then I've heard stories where people spend almost 10-12 hours a day since they want to scale up, build more sites, etc. etc.

Also, I'm not including research, reading the warrioforum/blogs or anything with internet marketing. I'm just talking about straight up doing work. Whether it's coding, backlinking, on-page seo, social bookmarking, social media, adding new content, fixing up a site, adding a new site, etc.

I'm not making a full time income just yet, but I'm working on it. I work about 3 hours a day with two sites. I just want to have an idea of how many hours people devote. I'm sure we're all different but I just want to see where I stand in terms of my hours spent.

    Honestly,

If someone says they are only spending 2-3 hours, even after they have an income flow, they probably aren't going to be making a full time income for the long haul.

In order to stay at the top, you have to put in the time. They may hire other people to do work, but they still have to stay on top of those people, stay up with latest trends, edit, etc.

Don't always believe the #s that some people on this board throw out. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Well this purely depends on the field of Internet in which the time is spent.

I make all of my money online right now, so my perspective is probably going to be a lot different from that of a part-time IM'er.

There was a time when I used to work for 20+ hours straight, without any breaks and then crash. It didn't work out that well for me, because every other area of my life (personal life, fitness, social life, etc) went downhill pretty fast. I was constantly feeling stressed, anxious and exhausted.

So I switched to a routine where I now work between 6 to 10 hours a day (mostly 10 hour days), 5-6 days a week. I try my best to stick to a schedule and never stay up working all night or oversleep in the morning. Life is a lot better now.

Most people who make a living off IM work at least 8 hours a day.

There are a few exceptions though where people are making xx,xxx per month on auto-pilot with little maintenance. Of course, they probably spent 16 hours a day on months end to make that happen.

Mon-Thurs I start at 8am and work until 1:30am with an hour break for dinner in the evening. Friday I usually only work a few hours in the morning and Sat-Sun I take most of the day off to spend with my wife and kids. If I am behind for the week, I will work Saturday night and Sunday night but it just depends on what I didn't get done.

Wow you guys really put in a lot time, and my family and friends thought i was a internet junkie. Back when I made a full time living online I spent just couple hours a day. The rest goes to my favorite site 1channel where you can watch any movie or tv show free of charge.

Even now I spend about 2 hours on keyword research a day, once I have enough easy to rank keywords I'll buy the domains and outsource the articles, so I really don't do much.

It really depends on what stage I am. If I am in the early days of building and promoting a site to get it to rank, I work non stop. If the site has already ranked, then I will kind of take it easy, but even when I take it easy, I am working at least 5-6 hours a day.

Now, mind you I have 2 day time jobs as well. So, I really dont have much more free time to spend on my online business, if I did, I would.

I could quite my day jobs since I do (thankfully) make more than enough with my online stuff, but I am a workaholic, plus with my sever depression, I think its a good idea for me to get out of the house and see and interact with other people. Otherwise, my depression would probably kill me, lol.

This thread opened my eyes a lot.

A 'busy' day for me is around 4 hours. I rarely work longer than that.

I just hope that for the people doing 10, even 12 hours a day its worth it. Honestly if your putting in 12 hour days you should be making OVER $5,000 per month thats a little over $1,000 per week. If I was to work for 12 hours a day, I wouldn't do it for anything less than $1,000. When I first started that's exactly what I did. Anywhere from 10 - 18 hours a day BUT I was still making 4 figures per day.

If your making way less than that is probably better for you to get a 9-5. Seriously.

I'm doing on average 2 and a half hours per day, and I'm making 4 figures per week consistently.

I'd be on about £30k/year right now in London. That's more or less standard for a new developer/analyst. I'm on track to turning over £30k in profit this summer (june + july + august combined after taxes), so it's definitely worth it. It didn't happen overnight and I've made tons of mistakes. Something like 2-4 years is a good estimate to making £100k+ a year (that's about $160k/year) consistently.

I know a lot of people who were making 4 figures per day, but none of them could sustain that for more than a few months. In fact, most of them are broke "ballers" right now. Definitely plan for the long term...

What I want to know though is this working on multiple sites? Or just one site?

The more I learn the more I want to work. But nevertheless, I need the sun or else I'm lacking that Vitamin D! There's always that fake a** Sunny Delight . But seriously, I need to workout to stay healthy, hang out with friends and family and enjoy my $$.

I'm easing my way (if there is such a thing) to where I gradually work more and more hours into internet marketing.

    This is so subjective...

If someone is building low value adsense sites, versus selling an IM product, they will have different outcomes.

It's not a fair question, unless we are all doing the same thing...

Well you can simply state "Oh I do adsense sites I spend blah blah." "Oh I sell IM products I spend this and that" if you want to be that specific.

Nobody is judging here, we are just sharing facts Daniel so there is no room for fair or unfair things.. and my friend, nobody is claiming here that he is working more or less than any fellow marketer so everybody should learn from him.. so just share your experience if you wish...No offense for anyone but in my opinion there is nothing wrong with question...

First we should define the so called Full-time Income. In our country getting past 1,000 USD a month is already a fulltime income. More or less I'm spending an hour a day working productively at home and the rest just reading and learning stuff I like to explore and playing games. However this was not the case when I was just starting. I spent like 8 hours a day doing blog related stuff back then. I think for starter its really important you spend more time to this kind of work as you need to check on a lot of things.

Oh, I know your country for SURE $1,000 USD is full time income. I was just there 4 months ago visiting my cousins in Caloocan city manila. (I'm Filipino American).

What are the payouts? If someone in the Philippines were to do Adsense/Amazon is it the same? How does it work?

When I was starting out, I would spend in front of my computer all day long building my sites and optimizing the existing ones. But that was long time ago.

Today, It depends on what I'm currently doing. If it's just maintenance of my current businesses, I only spend as little as necessary to make the changes that need to be made and that may take only a few tens of minutes a day.

But if I'm here to start a new business, the process is the same. Building a business that lasts usually takes many months of planning and working. The start is the hardest part, later down the road you usually have to work much less than at the beginning.

I work 10-14 hours per day. I build links through blog commenting or article marketing the first part of those hours(with a break on the WF every now and then )and then spend the rest of the time getting posts ready for the week on my blog, and updating social media and other stuff.

I have finally got my income around a little over $5,000 per month. But it took a lot of months to get it there! The first 3-4 months I made $0!! My wife about killed me!

I currently don't make a full time income online. In fact, I don't make any income online right now. I'm in the researching and acquiring of knowledge phase. In the last 3 weeks or so, I've spent easily 3-6 hours a day researching, reading, studying, asking questions and testing to get closer to my goal of being my own boss.

Technically, I have a boss. But I'm fortunate where I can work as if I run my own business. I work in the software industry and travel extensively (I cover 10 states as territories so it gets hectic at time) so it's safe to say I'm a busy guy...

...the point that I'm making though is that even though I put in 8-12 hour days... 80% of the time I'm really putting in only 2-4 hours of work.

Time is really all about perception. Unless you're doing hard labor or some sort of coaching/mentoring it's incredibly hard to really make the 10-12 hours you're putting in 100% productive.

The answer to this depends on too many factors:
    1. what methods are you using
    2. PPC, seo etc..
    3. Are you outsourcing?
    4. Which part are you outsourcing?
    5. Are you dependent on search engines or classifieds?
    6. Are you creating your own products?

But one thing is a constant that I'm sure everyone will agree with, if you want to replace your full time job, you will have to work harder on your IM than you do at work.
