Let's say I created a website that is almost completely brand new. Is it worth it to purchase SEO packages in order to increase my ranking? Would it be suspicious if my website suddenly had a lot of traffic or backlinks? Would it be safer to use drip-feed methods instead?

  • For the start, try to get organic traffic and focus on manual link building. Track your results and see what you can improve. Then you can start using other methods for building links and attracting more visitors to your site.

In the beginning definitely take it slow. You don't want to burn the site with too many links. The first 2 months are very sensitive when it comes to Google. If you're not careful you can destroy a site before its even seen the light of day.

Unless your site can offer a huge potential monetary return buying links isn't a good long term strategy. Eventually when you run out of $ you'll be dead in the water.

During the first month I just do some social bookmarking and build social network links such as Facebook. Twitter, Youtube, Google +. Then after 1.5 months or so I just buy a good backlinking service and that ususally bring me to Google Page 2 for low-medium competetion. Then during the middle of 2rd month I buy few high PR contextual links and order another backlinking service again (diversify my backlinks). Keep my site updates and usually that gets me to the Top 5 or even 1 most of the time.

If your site is new focus on (in order of priority)

    1. Content
    2. On Page SEO
    3. Smaller link building campaigns

What's the difference between on page SEO and link building? Don't you have to build back-links in order to get page ranking anyway?

On Page SEO is SEO within your own site. E.g: keyword density, image alt tags, page loading speed, website structuring, LSI keywords, content, etc

Link building is off page SEO where its not within your site. E.g: link building.

We need to both on page seo + off page seo to rank your site.
Tip: With a great on page seo, ranking your pages with backlinks will be 10x easier.

Does this mean it's best to have good content first before starting to build back-links? What would qualify as "good" content? How would I know when to start building links?

With good content, it makes your link building campaigns much more,

Unique content with around 1% keyword density & some LSIs in the article.

You can start link building straight away from day 1 but I usually build links to my new site after 1 month and let that new site age while I'm working on my other sites.

Manual link building at a steady rate would be the way to go.

First of all a new website can get tons of backlinks naturally. No problem. Secondly yes you should drip feed backlinks and that is why SEO requires time.

You should have your site completed before beginning the offsite optimization process. There's no point in trying to race a hyundai excel in the nascar.

Forget about chasing thousands of links. Its the quality of the link that counts, not the quantity.

Once your site is completed, I would recommend submitting a press release using PRWeb.com

    Good luck.

Yes, I know but I'm just looking for advice so far about what to do and what would be the best way to optimize my site when it's finished. But thanks a lot though for your input

I would definitely avoid purchasing SEO packages from the start. Try to focus on getting organic traffic by updating the site's content on a regular basis, do some research on who your target audience is so you can better determine what type of content you should be including, try to get in touch with online publications that are relevant to your site's topic and suggest writing an article for them (this will put your site on other websites and thus help with traffic).
These are just some of a million things you can do to improve traffic. If NOTHING works, then go to an SEO company and see what the offers are.

    Good luck!

The most important thing to maintain with new websites is link velocity.

For example in week 1 you build 500 links, then build another 600 in week 5 and then 1,000 in week 7 then you are begging for a penalty.

Whatever you do you must remaing consistent with your backlink profile and the accumlative number should grow steadily over time without any sudden and sharp increases.

You should also have full control of any links built to your site so that you can remove them in the future if you need to.

Personally I would recommend staying away from any SEO service provider. Most of them use poor quality auto generated content and spam the same list of targets over and over. It is much better for you to have full control over the links that are created so you can ensure quality throughout your first tier.

It starts with keywords and content...

If you have a lot of content, and a lot of useful information on your site, then it's not a 'problem' to start getting backlinks. It would make sense.

On the other hand, if you have a lot of links and hardly any content, it would just seem weird...

I read a thread recently where one keyword with 800 searches had tens of thousands of backlinks. That defies logic, doesn't it?

When you get content on your site, it makes sense to drip-feed, instead of spamming the web with backlinks.

If it sounds fishy to you, it probably is.

If the site is really new, it is wise to drip feed quality links with time.
