How to Find LSI Keywords

If you use Google's Keyword Tool, the results are obvious LSI keywords already, regardless if you searched it through broad, or exact, or whatever.

Google adwords tool works fine for LSI.

Another option to supplement your semantic kw research is to use Google Insights for search. ( look at the bottom for related terms & as well as rising / breakout searches )

Words that are close in meaning to the targeted keywords and phrases are called LSI keywords. Such words are keyword alternatives and relate to the theme of the content written by you. LSI keywords not only give you broader online coverage but also help you to rank high in SERPs.

I use Keyword Country to dig out niche related LSI keywords that are high in popularity and profitability. My silver bullet it is!

Google keywords are somewhat LSI. They are not all accurate or useful, and often are completly nonsense.

There are LSI tools out there... this one is free Latent Semantic Indexing

You can check google keyword tool and look for terms that are related to your keyword. You can also try looking at related terms at the bottom of the page when you search for a certain keyword.

Yes. That can work well as your LSI keyword list. But other than that, consider adding a few keywords without the "only show ideas closely related to term" check box ticked.

Start typing your keyword into google, look at the auto-suggestions, try putting those on your page aswell in your incoming anchor text...

As long as you don't check "only include terms with my keywords," (don't remember the exact phrasing at the moment) you'll get related suggestions. Which are pretty much the same thing.

Google used to have a nice LSI tool build into the search engine. But that was canned awhile back.

I have been blogging a lot. I have my primary keyword and when I add LSI keywords my keyword density goes up.

Does that mean I'm adding the right words?

When I click on "Suggest LSI Keywords" it never gives me words. It's a new system so maybe it's not up to date on that just yet.

I would like to point out that the Competition in the adwords tool does not stand for how competitive it is to rank for a keyword. Certain keywords with low competition can be extremely hard to rank for. The competition there suggests how many people want to advertise for that keyword. Higher the competition, higher the CPC. That parameter is relevant to you only if you are trying to advertise in adsense.

Type your keyword into Google then scroll to the bottom and look out for "Searches related to XXXX".

XXXX = keyword.

This is how I find LSI keywords and alternative anchor text.

Using Google Keyword, when you type in a word or a phrase, the results you’ll get are called ‘keyword ideas’ which are your LSI keywords. They might have completely different terms, wordings or spellings compared to the main keyword but there’s only one thing that’s for sure here—they are related to the main keyword.
When talking about SEO, main keyword, LSI keywords and page content are not the only useful tools to use but they’re definitely very helpful and important. Without LSI keywords, you won’t be able to come up with a highly relevant content that will be tagged as important by search engines.

Finding "LSI Keywords" *maybe* still had some merit a few years ago, but I found the principle behind it always stupid for many reasons.

First, it's not Google who "defines" what LSI and relevant keywords are, it's exactly the other way around: Content/People define what is relevant and it's Google's job to adopt to this with their search algorithm and to recognize what is actually relevant to a certain subject.

If you "write content for Google" you are a total fool, IMO.

If you have/write web content that is spot-on about a specific subject, there is no way around that it WILL CONTAIN LSI keywords - whether Google realizes them or not is irrelevant, at least for me.

If I write an article about, say, "KOI Fish Ponds For Your Garden".....it won't contain keywords related to car tires or plasma physics. If the article is halfway good and not too short, it will have relevant keywords in it. It is GOOGLE's job to find the relevancy of my article and not MY job to adopt to Google's search algorithm.

Google will always adopt to us and recognize whether content is relevant. If it does NOT, this is not my problem (or a problem of my content) but Google's problem.

Add: Please think about HOW Google actually collects and ultimately "finds out" about LSI keywords and what KWs and phrases are relevant. They do this by analyzing content, WE are the ones making the rules, not them.

Um I am sure that is true but doing Search Engine Optimization makes it easier for Google to pick our website up. I can write epic content which has the potential to get shared and go viral sure. But if I have a search engine optimized post which shows up on top of google for certain targeted keywords, I will get traffic even after the virality has died down. I dont think anybody can say that keyword research is not important. Even spending a few minutes doing it before writing a post, will make a lot of difference.

As others have said, KW tool.

Also dont forget "related searches" at the bottom of Google.

Also George, FWIW i agree with you, you need to be writing stuff for humans. But LSI keywords, often give you ideas for things you can write about within your content, and its not hard to sprinkle in a couple of related phrases naturally in to your content.

For the most part though, i don't even worry about this stuff when im writing content. But i get my writers to add LSI kws, just because its easy for me to order them to do lol

Here's a tip for making LSI keywords not look like over optimized keyword stuffing.

Lets say my keyword is [best family vacations], search Google keyword tool or do a regular Google search like already mentioned above.

Now take all those LSI keywords & remove the root keyword, the keyword we searched for (best family vacations).

Here's my list of LSI keywords from a Google search:

best family vacation destinations
best family vacations on a budget
best luxury family vacations
best family vacations with toddlers
best family resorts
best family beach vacations
best family cruises
cheap family vacations

Here's the same keywords minus the root keyword:

destinations
budget
luxury
toddlers
resorts
beach
cruises
cheap

Now you can target your main keyword (best family vacations) & use the condensed LSI keyword list as surrounding text.

Also remember to do your root keyword searches for both singular & plural (vacation/vacations) sometimes Google will throw in new relevant keyword phrases.

Example:

<title>Best Family Vacations for 2013</title>

<h1>Best Family Vacations</h1>

Lorem ipsum destinations dolor sit amet, consectetur budget adipiscing elit. Aliquam cursus lorem vitae tempus pulvinar. There's only a few keyword places the root keyword needs to be placed on the page, Google is pretty good about connecting the surrounding text to the root keyword.

I use this technique everyday but I don't write articles, more like short descriptions. The amount of text on the page isn't important, what's important is having the root keyword in key locations, example <title>, <h> tags, image alt tags, & then surrounding that root keyword with relevant keywords.

Adding LSI keywords as surrounding text for images also works for helping to rank thumbnail images in Google text search.

There is no need to check any options like broad , Exact and etc. Just search your primary keyword in Google Adword tool and in the below all the keywords will be LSI.

There is a good tool called LSI keyords. Google it.
