Both are race to bottom (IMHO)

If you wanna be in the game for multiple years, forget these gimmicks and start focusing on real value creation or wait to get pandalized/penguinalized

After Google Panda and Penguin Update, i don't think these tools still hold any value,

Effectiveness of these strategies depend on how informative content you are offering with these linking structures. Linking spun content may not results as good as it can with good content. Since new algorithm are giving good weightage to links coming from authority or good content... So, keep your content upto the mark.

well, both of these methods are now out of the Task. you can not make links using these methods. It can give you a penalty of Google penguin update.

Try to get as much links using Guest posts. try to get links from authority domains. !

    Thanks

Probably one of the worst "old time" tactic. When you see complicated link diagrams like the below, it looks like great SEO work but in reality, its nothing
more than a drawing to make you think this works. Google employs the best
engineers, do you honestly think a link scheme can fool Google?

The way to fool Google is simple. Get relevant, strong backlinks ie sites that
have built up a reputation within the market itself. It's really that simple, I promise
    you.

Thats a pretty one sided view. The goal is link diversity. You want there to be incoming links from a wide variety of sources. If all your links are basically bought from highly relevant sources, do you think google wont "catch" that either?

There's also more of a reason than just having backlink structures. These sites also gain a significant amount of traffic. Multiply them and you multiply your traffic.

And there is no way for google to detect a pattern unless it's completely obvious.. actually, let me rephrase this.. the whole world wide web can be formed into patterns if you draw lines between them. In that aspect, google can't tell the difference between your structure and the rest of the world, unless again it's set up poorly. Randomization is your best ally!
