Hello guy,
I want to make the link building tasks together with someone else. He says he used to work before with client's virtual private server /VPS/ for the link building and using automated building software but i don t know why this may concern the link building exactly? Any suggestions why? Thank you!

I found this forum is for SEO and post it by mistake in the main forum, so excuse me for anyone who find it in both forums.

A VPS can be useful if you are using any automated software because you can leave it on 24/7 to run without tying up your home computer.

Also, if you are collaborating on projects with someone else, it let's you share a common workplace for tasks and documents.

There is no SEO benefit to using it though.

Thank you for replying! Does this mean it is something like a virtual computer so we can share what we both do and store information like in Dropbox or something like that?

Yeah it is more or less a virtual computer.

NO! you do not *need* VPS for link building.

You can get commodity links by running blasts from some link automation softwares, but in the longer run those types of links will do you more harm than good in the post penguin world

I used to go the VPS route but frankly if you have say a quad core machine and lots of room for memory I found theres no reason to. I have virtualbox running even on my laptop almost all the time now without a hiccup. Doesn't interrupt anything else I am doing and you can set the resources like memory it uses. Now if you are doing some intensive stuff with your computer (gaming. video processing etc) then it might be an issue or if you have broadband on the slow side.

Most cheap VPS have small memory and CPU resources and by the time you upgrade you will be spending hundreds of dollars a year that you could just as welll have upgraded your system with.

Other benefit? In many situations I don't have to pay more to license software on another system (though in some I do because virtualbox setup is actually just like a new system the way some programmers set their software up)

Thank you! Yes, I have this thing in mind. I read how most of the SEO techniques are almost useless after Google's updates. I am not using and will not use any software to build links, but still this is a question mark - if i only have articles - aren't they enough to bring enough traffic as Google may sooner or later decide (like the "do follow/ no follow blogs") to drop off the authority of some other techniques which are estimated (for now only) a good ones. I read how web 2.00 comments are no longer effective too, how bookmarks are not effective enough. So which techniques do you think will last and keep doing good?
