Google Filter or Google Dance? Can You Help?

I've had a website I started writing posts for on June 1, 2012

At one post a day the traffic was steadily climbing and it was ranking 1 or 2 for the given keywords.

I've just been doing basic social bookmarking posts for backlinking and I wrote a few "junk" articles on web 2.0 site and gave each article 1 link back to my homepage.

Well...

My sites not banned (I've searched for site:mysite.com and it's there), but it's either dancing or had a filter put on it. I havent really done anything out of the ordinary.

Is 2 months in too late to dance?

Would creating crappy articles on web 2.0 sites and given one backlink each hurt my site and get a filter put on it?

Would too many social bookmarks done over a long period of time hurt my site? Not Fiverr gigs but like 4 a day per post (all on different social bookmarking sites?)

Thanks guys! Any help would be greatly appreciated

    With new site and fresh content google tends to rank you higher for a short time , but after a while you get back to your poistion. Honestly doing a manual work I doubt that you could have harmed your site in any way. Keep building backlinks and you may start ranking

      I agree, and also continue to do link building. It is important that you not just stop and "see whats happening".

      Continue to do your link building - make variations, get some good links from blog commenting and relevant forums.
