First PPC campaign - landing page dilemma

OK basic question here.

I'm ready to get starting losing money so I can learn PPC! I've done some research on a niche and I found a product on clickbank that I want to promote (I know, I know, but I applied to another affiliate network and wasn't accepted so I'm just going to start with clickbank).

What I am struggling with is what landing page to point my ad to. If I make my own landing page to promote the product, then people will have to click through to the product's landing page before they eventually buy, and it seems like I will lose a lot of people that way.

I could make the ad link to my domain which is forwarded directly to the product's own landing page, but I'm afraid Google will ban me for that. Or is that the best way to do it?

Thanks!

This will not be a concern if you are using AdWords because the landing page won't even be approved if designed this way.

Your best bet is to use a lead capture page, get the email address of the visitor and then you can promote the product to them.

I totally agree with Bob above. Build a list of subscribers. This way you will not only be able to promote chosen products but also many other products in future.

      Hope it makes sense.

You may also want to think about creating a free report or e-book that is related to the product you are going to be promoting. Then you can offer this to the visitor as a bribe to try to make sure they leave their email address.

During my last campaign I got "hit" for using "strong marketing terms". Meaning that they simply did not like my sales page... because I was actually trying to "sell something".

Anymore.... adwords is only good for gaining access to Google"s "free tools":

I never have problems "selling stuff" via AdWords so I'm not sure what you are referring to. I suspect they didn't like your sales page because you were making unsubstantiated claims.

Folks..You do realize that a straight-up lead capture page will almost never be approved by the AdWords team, right?

Now, other lower-tier PPC programs may but I can't speak about them since I don't use them.

How's that? I have seen many tutorials using Adwords for lead capture page traffic generation.

Unless the landing page provides what's being advertised, you will be hard-pressed to get it approved. Sending someone to a page that's mostly just a lead capture form can be problematic for someone who doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to AdWords.

According to the site admin post in the forum Clickbank refers to from their website - he wrote to CB in March 2012 asking if it was OK to bypass the vendor pitch page - here is the link to the thread - his answer from CB is the last post -

ClickBankSuccessForum.com :: View topic - Possible to link directly to order processing page?

But basically it states that as long as you OK it with the vendor, it is OK with CB to set up a link direct to checkout. There are several videos on Youtube that will show you how to do this, just do a search for the following: link directly to a clickbank product order page

Just be sure to check the link out before using it so that it posts your CB ID to the check out page as is shown on the videos.

Before you start a PPC campaign first decide if you have a good business model intact to achieve a Return On Investment (ROI). It's absolutely pointless to spend money on traffic if you don't have a strategy to make a profit.

Providing you have a strategy all you do is go to adwords.google.com and sign up. Their wizard will guide you through the steps. Your objective is to drive RELEVANT traffic to your web site. Follow these tips:

    - Search for keywords that closely relate to the product or service you are offering. In a perfect scenario those keywords would be somewhere on your landing page and in your Adwords Ad.

    - Choose longtail keywords that have traffic but less competition. Your bid will be less than popular keywords.

    - Create specific ad groups that allow you to have very specific ads geared towards specific keywords.

    - Create a Negative Keyword list. If your website is about Car Loans and your keyword is "bad credit car loan" you will want to block the following keywords for example: calculator, mortgage, review, ..., etc.

    - When writing your ad use a title that is closely related to the keywords being typed in. In the description of your ad always be brief yet specific. Your descriptions should pull the customer in letting them know that YOU have what they want.

    - Always use a landing page. NEVER point an adwords campaign at your index page unless 1) your landing page IS your index page or 2) you simply want more traffic to your main page. If your goal is to produce leads it's absolutely a requirement to have a landing page with a form of some sort and little to no other options for the user to click.

    - Always keep in mind. More traffic DOESN'T always equal more profit. Your goal is to drive RELEVANT traffic to your site. THAT will make you money. 20 visitors seeking a product that you are offering is much more valuable to your company than having 1,000 visitors looking for sex visit a web site about dish detergent.

    - Figure out your budget before you open your adwords account. Know what you want to spend and what you can spend. Never act on impulse. Adwords at first can be gambling with worse odds than a Casino. Also, even if you see an immediate return always remember it's not a short term investment... it's a long term. Your ROI will be determine in MONTHS of adwords usage. Not a single day.

    - One last time: Relevant Web Site + Relevant Keywords + Relevant Ad = Success.
