Hey everyone,

I apologize if this has already been discussed in WF and if so, I have not been able to find that thread.

Since our company is expanding and we are now actively using social media and social shares to help with rankings, I wanted some feedback on it.

If you run your own website, I would love for you to tell me how your website's visibility (either through rankings or through quality traffic) increased because of FB shares and likes, Twitter retweets and Google +1s.

Now, we all know that these things help with the visibility by I am looking for ACTUAL case studies and proof, not opinions.

I am sure this study will help us all out.

Please feel free to chime in

Yasir Khan

I'm ranking pages with no social traffic/links (besides niche forums), so I have to say social isn't a big deal as far as SEO.

All that Twitter, FB, G+ is fluff IMO.

@radivoj I think as the facebook twitter google +1 shares can be indexed by google, google recommend them as the high quality backlinks .

So we can create many social shares in these websites?

Social votes by themselves may not propel rankings higher in every case, even though I've seen some case studies myself where they have, I believe they're a necessary mix to any good seo strategy for diversification and insulation from future updates, since the whole idea of seo is to create the illusion (real or not) that your site is becoming more popular on the internet, and getting votes from different people on different platforms will only help....

Personally, I've not seen high correlation between FB/Twitter metrics & rankings in Google ( even though I'm aware of the chart posted by another user in this thread. )

Bing on the other hand, has access to the FB share data and is known to integrate those signals more tightly in their SERP's

( But it's obvious that both the search engines are striving to decipher the social graph in more reliable way and it will only become more important going forward. )

      Thanks for the feedback guys.

See this is exactly what the confusion is about.

Some people are so certain that social signals help with the rankings, others think its more of a temporary boost while others do not find a correlation.

Has anyone actually done a case study on this kind of stuff?

I would love to go through it and even mention it on our company's website if I can find it somewhere

Most case studies in SEO are created to sell the alternative miracle, careful what you read.

All I know is I rank pages without caring about social sites, that's proof enough for me.
